Merry Christmas Patchers! It is time to participate in the 2017 "Un-Official Briar Patch" Secret Santa Event. A quick listing of the rules: - Have a minimum of 50 posts by November 15, 2017, or be vouched for by a member who has at least 100 posts. NO EXCEPTIONS. Participants whose post count is close to 50 will be scrutinized for post quality.
- Agree to send a gift of, AT A MINIMUM, two (2) sealed tobacco tins, pouches, etc. of 50g each (or the equivalent volume of bulk tobacco in sealed condition), incurring costs for the present and shipping.
- Post to this thread when you have shipped your Secret Santa gift to your giftee.
- Post to this thread when you have received your gift from your Secret Santa. Even if you are going to wait until Christmas to open it, please post when it has arrived.
- Be happy with the gift of giving and not what you receive. This is the point of "The Briar Patch" Secret Santa Event. We take care of our own.
- Whenever you decide to open your gift, post pictures or at least a summary of the goodies you received from your Secret Santa to this thread.
- Feel free to post in this thread whenever the Christmas mood strikes.
- Participants outside the USA are welcome to signup. I will make every effort to match you with someone from your country to minimize your potential customs fees. If that is not possible, you agree to accept your gift package from another country and pay whatever customs fees may be charged to you.
- Postmark your Secret Santa gift no later than December 1, 2017. (Mail your package out by the 1st of December - NO EXCEPTIONS!) Yes, that only gives you two weeks from the time the signup ends until shipping is required so PLAN AHEAD.
- Kris Kringle (me) has the right to add, alter or make changes to these rules if needed.
Signup instructions:- Copy the list and paste it to your signup post. Don't forget to add your name to the bottom of the list before clicking create thread.
- By signing up you agree to the above rules and agree to be held accountable for said rules.
- If you are willing to ship outside of the USA, send me a private message indicating that you will do so.
Thanks for participating and for your generosity. Enjoy the Holidays pipers! Note: This event, while encouraged, is not officially endorsed by The Briar Patch management. The Briar Patch will not be held responsible for any actions resulting from participation in this event, including getting lumped by Peteguy for not following the rules.

OK Folks - Kris Kringle here. The cutoff date for signup is Nov. 15th and that is less than a month away. We need more participants so I am offering a Christmas incentive. The next 10 people to signup will get a free ounce, or close to it, of tobacco. You can choose from the following Christmas list:
Patriot Flake, Blood Red Moon, Holiday Spirit 2012, 1855 Erik Peters and Hamborger Veermaster.
Get that Christmas Spirit flowing and sign up today!!

I took myself off. I travel a great deal around the holidays and I can't say for sure I'll even be home in December. It's a fun idea though.

I am new at this. So, can we put in more than the tobacco? Like a pipe or tamper or something?

Couple of observations here guys.
In regards to adding to your SS gift. There appears to be no specific rule prohibiting this. That being said, I have seen this type of thing go horribly wrong at other sites. People start gifting more than is required and it becomes a competition who can do the most or give the "best" stuff. It can cause animosity among those who can only afford to gift the 2 tins of tobacco. I would just encourage everyone to remember this is about the spirit of the season and giving and that ability is different for everyone.
Next... I'm a little surprised that with such an active group and growing membership, that we don't have more people participating in this. This is a fun activity and is great for building our sense of community. Obviously some people have financial limitations, but that aside, I would really encourage everyone to jump on board. Activities like this and their success, determine what other activities the forum is willing to try.

We are going “White elephant” this year, right?

Never having done this before. How does it work? Everyone submits their name and then Peteguy sends their name and address of someone else on the list?

Never having done this before. How does it work? Everyone submits their name and then Peteguy sends their name and address of someone else on the list? Basically yes. I will ask for addresses nearer to November 15th. I will use a random generator to match up partners and they will then exchange gifts. Gifts should be sent out by December 1st.

should we include the kind of tobacco we like when we submit our addresses? i would hate to send some aromatic to someone who only smokes english or vice versa or a VaPer to someone who doesn't like Virginias.

Lady M, would you mind starting a new thread for likes / dislikes for SS gifts?
