We have mule deer living in the area with us. They just blend in and are seen in yards, eating bushes and generally lounging and pooping everywhere. The last two nights, they have been snacking on the pumpkins (jack-o-lanterns) on our front porch! This is what we found this morning. I guess they can read the welcome mat.

Lol ... tasty pumpkin treats! We have lots of them also and a few bed down in the back of the property almost every night.

We have to buy "deer proof" plants for the yard. They love the lilies.

That does solve a disposal issue for you.

When I lived in the bay area and worked for a foodservice company, after halloween I would drive the truck to Half Moon Bay and pick up the surplus pumpkins and delver them to the San Francisco zoo...They always let us get a photo op backing up to the Hippo's and we would toss pumpkins to them...a 20 pound pumpkin went down in one bite! On a similar note, if you live near a zoo, wild cat dung spread around the targeted areas, keeps the deer away.

First time I saw a mule deer was in the Wasatch Valley in Utah. It was early spring and I was fly fishing in a stream with my best Army bud. There was a small herd grazing in the field next to us approximately thirty feet away and they didn't care about us being there. They looked rough and weren't exactly Field and Stream material. Pete said it'd been a hard winter and they'd fatten up later.

From a neighbor: Mule Deer here are coming back. For many years it seemed elk were out competing them. Also, we have had a significant puma population which has been thinned by hunting. This past summer there was a small herd here watering in the creek, grazing the cultivated fields and then returning to the mesa woods. Nice to see them.
