@lonecoyote Pastor Paddy may need that alarm clock so he can get to service on time. Nice tampers, like the bottom one the most. Thanks Johnπ The ones with the old pen tops are more practical and the type I use the most. The stainless steel was easy on my lathe. Perfect weight and balance.

Couple of months ago I turned some tampers. Got them sanded and finished. Then put them in a bag to protect them. Well the gnomes found them and they are gone. Or could it been the wood elf's.
Anyway has anyone heard from @nevadablue?

No serious work was done in the making of these tampers! An antique junk shop had a basket of broken antlers. The price was Free so I took a couple and cut the tines off for use as tampers. (The big pieces are being sent to a pipe carver I know so he can use them as stem accents).

Nice work, Joe! Do you get any smell from the antler hitting the hot coal/ember/tobacco?

I use older common copper pennies. I drill a small hole in the center, Gorilla Glue it and screw it on the end with a brass screw. Then I sand it flush and polish it. I tape the antler end to protect it from the sanding and grinding. I sand the screw off flush and polish the end.
