The billiard shape being my favorite, I'm naturally drawn to the so-called "Bing" pipes. Jiminks pointed me towards Basil Meadows pipes a few years back and am am sure glad he did. Here is my collection of Basil's bings/billiards (plus the Christmas Pipe Basil gifted to me). The amount of straight grain and silver in this image leads my thoughts down an unclean path. It's a hell of a selection.

I have the first Bing Basil made, which he did upon my request since I knew I'd never afford a Merchant Service pipe. I doubt one of those would smoke better than the ones Basil makes. I'm surprised you think you cannot afford "Merchant Service." I have seen a couple go by on my saved eBay search at very reasonable prices. (albeit, not the classic "Bing" shape)

Never saw many, and they were often expensive, so I passed on the two or maybe it was three that I have seen in recent years. And as they were not a top brand, I don't imagine they'd smoke better than what Basil makes.

Is anyone else reading this thread with the “Road to Morocco” theme song playing in their head? Seriously, I love these threads about the history of our hobby/love.
