I only have one to judge from, but it is one of my best pipes. Ron makes great pipes. Maybe I will be able to swing another next year. |

I don't need another pipe. But if Santa was going to drop one on my doorstep it would be one carved by Sixten Ivarsson. Sixten is arguably the most influential single carver of the last two centuries. His approach to shaping according to the flow of the grain freed others to create more organic shapes. In his way, Sixten is to pipes what JS Bach is to music. Bach freed all musicians to compose in any key that their ear allowed by his invention of the well, or even, tempered scale.

Tonni Nielsen had the most badass calabash pipe at the West Coast Pipe Show... wish I had taken a picture, it was exquisite.
He is in such demand, he doesn’t have a website... they are snatched up quickly.

No complicated search for me this time among estate pipes. Just a new, no-surprises Sav Punto Oro Classic, in a traditonal, the name says it all, classic shape.

I definitely agree on Sixten's importance. If I can shoot for the moon with this one, I'm going with an unsmoked Bo Nordh. If I have to be a bit more feasible, I’ll say an unsmoked or very lightly smoked 1960s Dunhill Root Briar group 3 Apple. |

Mine was obtainable . . . . . a Rossi Vittoria #8673 bent Bulldog, ordered yesterday. Sounds simple, but the few that pop up at SP, disappear faster than the #8320 Author. This makes 6 Vittoria models for me, with 5 more to go to have a complete herd.

 Ardor remains my 'white whale.' Realistically, I'm single, there is no such thing as Santa, and I'm trying to be more financially responsible lately (House isn't going to buy itself) so I'll probably treat myself to a reasonable pipe- Comoy's, Savinelli, or maybe a Peterson. OR This Guy! Obviously made for a Pirates fan.  Also I found a maker last night and I cannot locate him now. He was on a popular pipe site like SmokingPipes or TobaccoPipes. There were a couple dark rusticated pipes with ugly chartreuse/pistachio green acrylic stems. I'll probably spend my evening trying to find his pipes again. haha Honestly, if I find him again, I may just have to cave into the PAD. |
