I have always enjoyed the taste and aroma of tobacco... simple as that. And a pipe with beverage, radio, pets, a good read, etc., grounds me relaxation-wise.

A year ago I was pretty much paralysed with acute anxiety. I was lucky in that I got great medical care(through the NHS), and have had a year of therapy. While I am pretty much myself again, anxiety will attack me from time to time. I'm still on medication to help with the condition. When I started back to work last year(I'd been booked off for ten weeks) I started smoking cigarettes. It was very much a stress related thing. Generally,I'd not smoke more than three a day. I'd struggle to say I enjoyed them. It's not long now that I've been smoking pipes. The major things it gives me are: Smoking a bowl of tobacco is more therapeutic than the medication I'm prescribed, including the tranquillisers. Smoking a bowl of tobacco is much more enjoyable and satisfying than any number of fags. Smoking a bowl of tobacco slows time down for me dramatically,be it on a stressful work day,or in my free time Pipe smoking allows me a level of relaxation similar to what I've had through meditation. It's also allowed me the privilege of joining this community I'm glad you found a way through the dark days and found some solace in this fine hobby. Glad to have you here, too. Thank you Paddy!

One of my close friends from the age of 28 was diagnosed with severe anxiety, he is now 64 and still at times gets an anxiety attack. He’s on a daily dose of klonopin and knows to call me any time of day or night. One never knows what can bring on an attack, that’s what most people don’t understand about the illness. Glad you were diagnosed early, may you stay on a healthy path and know you can always come here to feel more relaxed and welcomed. Glad your part of this forum. BETTER DAYS ARE AHEAD Thank you lonecoyote! Thanks for the good wishes, and I'm really pleased to be here with you all👍

I, too, suffer from anxiety, and pipe smoking is a welcome respite from it. In fact, this morning I had my bi-yearly general check-up. I've been on edge for weeks, since I have "white coat syndrome". The visit went fine, as usual, but my anxiety was on full-blast waiting for a death sentence. I doubled up my Klonopin this morning, which I NEVER EVER do. I came home, had a big bowl of my "shag mix " (Five Brothers, Dark Bird's Eye, 311 Perique, and Three Sails). That helped a lot. I look forward to my night time pipe ritual. The calm, and clear mindedness of it. My Zen time. Thank you for sharing! I'm pleased it went well with the doc. The whole ritual thing is so important to the experience, isn't it?

Anxiety is bad for me too. I have meds for it but I swear the whole ritual of the pipe calms that more than the pills. From selecting and prepping tobacco, to the last puff and pipe cleaner swab, it calms my mind and my nerves. I love this "hobby" a little more everytime I put fire to a bowl. I'm sorry to hear you suffer anxiety too. I'm glad you've gotten help for it though👍 To all of us,lonecoyote is right...there are better days ahead!
