Life has another change for me, whether it be a good decision on my part I'm really unsure but, as of today I sold my shop building and decided to move to Utah to live with my Daughter and family. I really need to be closer to my Daughter but, the stress this has put me under is more then the usual move I've done many times in my life. Maybe because of my age and disability now but, I hope it's the right move and it happens fairly smoothly without many upsets. As you've probably already guessed this will mean no more pipe making and it may mean I may never return to it. To tell you the truth it controls my life and stops me from doing things that need to be done and rarely gives me much pleasure anymore. It was a hobby that turn into a necessity to meet financial needs only to devour my little profit in supply costs. When is the move going to happen, I'm hoping I can get everything packed up and ready by the end of January or February but, even that remains to be seen. I'm the only one here so it'll take time to sell off and pack things. Wish me luck my friends.

Wow Ron,
Being a relative noob here, I am sure that this will have a much larger impact on many here than me, meaning that I haven't had an opportunity to acquire one of your works of art yet.
I for one am sorry to see you getting out of this almost lost art, as I have loved seeing your posts and beautiful creations.
I understand the move and wish you the best.
Take care and God Bless
Dino

Well life certainly throws us curve balls, that require prioritizing... putting family first speaks well of you Ron, I hope that moving to Utah allows you to provide whatever support your daughter needs. Sorry to hear that pipemaking became such a burden, it certainly never manifested itself in your body of work which got better with each piece that you turned out. I hope that you can stay active on the forums, I always have liked your contributions.

Ron, we will miss your briar creations but I understand that life decisions come first. You are a dear member here so I hope you'l continue to contribute with your experience and deep knowledge of the hobby. I feel honored to have 2 of your pipes and will continue to cherish them. Good luck with the new chapter in your life and please keep us updated on how you're doing. Best wishes for whatever you encounter.

If that's your real mustache you could be Leather Man in the next iteration of the Village People.
Seriously, Ron. Good luck. Please don't quit the club, though you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave

This can take a lot of stress if you are moving anything.... not always the cheapest route, but it is better than driving a rental truck. www.upack.com

Thank you all for your best wishes and support. While moving and getting my life setup again there will be of course a time when no one will hear anything from me only because I'll be unable to. No cell phones on this side of the rainbow.

No sir, besides I'll have help loading and unloading, I could never do it myself. And my son in law will be driving the truck back with my truck on a trailer tagg'en behind...........with me sitting shotgun. No way I could even drive half way there anymore with my back. But, I do appreciate it sir.

Ron I had to undergo a traumatic turn around late in life, all I can say you"ll be surprised what you can endure, you're old school, and you've got the will to go get em, you"ll do fine, and in time this will be a fog. Write us down the road.

Hey Ron - I live in Utah so fear not brother, you have a friend here. Please feel free to message me with anything that may cross your path. I am here for whatever you need if it is within my means. One chapter closes and another opens. Who knows, we may even write a chapter together!

It's sad to hear you will be taking a break from the craft- you truly have a gift. I hope you settle into your new home well and enjoy the opportunity to spend time with your daughter. Hope your move goes smooth.

Good luck for the move to go smoothly. Too bad about giving up the pipe work, it's a lovely craft. Can't get a much better place than Utah. I used to have a house in Sandy, just outside little Cottonwood Canyon. I miss it. Enjoy it there.

Change is always so damn uncomfortable, but things are what they are and what will be will be. Keep a positive mindset and good luck with the move. (Gonna miss those beautiful creations, though.) Best wishes, Ron.
