Again, thanks for all the kind words. Tomorrow the shelter, which is part of the animal hospital, will be bringing Bullet by. I may call him Rajah, but will let everyone else stick with Bullet. Rajah is from Rogers Hornsby, one of my fave baseball players. One glitch that I am trying to get into on. Rajah is being treated for heartworms. I am thinking we can afford to keep this up, but I won't find the cost out till the morning. Since this new doggie is 3 and Willydog passed at 3 I am thinking this is kismet. Also, in the way of Karma is that he is a deserted dog from Kennett, MO. Worst 24 hours of my life, when at 3am a school bud said, let's go down to Kennett and get laid by Linda. While there I met his friends. People who fed a baby beer to shut him up. No kidding. So, if I get a chance to help a doggie from there, I'm in. www.adoptapet.com/pet/19213029-st-louis-missouri-pit-bull-terrier-mix

Thanks. I just got a call I was not expecting until the morrow. The drug they use for heartworms is in short supply. Since Bullet has been in the shelter for a while he is mostly through the other method. Get this:
It's as simple as Doxicyclene for a month. Cheap. And he is done with that. Then it is normal Heartworm preventative, which takes care of the baby worms. After 90 days it's like 100% cure... at no extra cost than what we would give him.
Karma, when beautiful, is called Kismet. We have his bed ready. And, as sad as I am about Willydog, I am really looking at Bullet as an extension of him

It takes special people to adopt another after one has passed. We have always done that as well. You deserve a lot of credit David. There is a m popular medication known as 'Heartgard' which is available at most Vets offices, as well as most of the pet supply houses. Good Luck with Bullet. That was Pat Brady's dog name.

I tried to talk Xuan into a second doggie. No go. At one time we had five dogs, most would have wound up being put down. They took some years out of my life when all five got sick at once, but I would let them take a few more years out of me to have them back.

I love dogs, but I haven't had one since I was 13. I have wanted a Berger Picard for years, but my housemate has two Miniature Schnauzers and I am at wits end as is. haha When I buy a house here in a couple years and live alone, I am sure I'll have a shaggy beast or two of my own.

Congrats on the new pooch. I use Interceptor Plus on the Cattle Dog the first weekend of every month ($8). He's 15 and still walks me for two miles.

He looks like a great addition to any home ... congrats! We just had a little Pit Bull girl move in with us and she's the sweetest thing ... my two boys vie for her attention.

Bullet is being attended to by Xuan while I write this. His heartworm thing is under control. He will be tested in a few months but will continue on the same chewy as a preventative. Really no difference in what we were already doing.
I thought for a while we were going to get a second one, a female beagle mix. Was not to be. I am sad because she would be similar to KittyDog, who we lost in 2013 this time of year.
That said, at least we have Bullet and I am happy to have the patter of lit.. big paws traipsing around

Turns out Bullet is five years old. Doesn't bark or make a sound for some reason. We're already in love with the doggie, as if it would have mattered otherwise.
When Xuan and I got married she never told me her age. Our girls won't tell me what they know. As if that would matter.

It is so bad that I sometimes hear them barking when they aren't. I'm reminded of a man named Berkowitz..

Thanks, yeah, he is classic. I always said I would not let kids around a dog until they were older. This doggie could have a baby thrown at him and he would just take it in stride.
He did bark twice today. One was the mailman. The other was some obvious miscreant walking too loudly on the street. The bark is a woof woof not a sharp ear piercing roooof rooof
He's already a great dog!

Probably the last post in this thread. I mentioned how Bullet was quiet. He is barking a little more and not too shrill. Biggest change is in his eyes. He didn't have a lot of life in his eyes. I think he was just going through the motions, not realizing he is home. This morning his eye lit up and he comes up to play and goes back and forth between Xuan and me. He's totally a Busch now.

Definitely a bulldog mix, but as the shelter listed it as a pit mix, I don’t see it.
Looks closer to an American bulldog mix... I have an American bulldog.
They probably know more than I do on breed classification.

I think they list Pit first so people know what they are getting into. His teeth, the way they almost disappear once you get past the front teeth, really look pit. But I am no expert. I just love em all

Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, etc. are ALL classified as Pit Bulls now.
It breaks my heart they way they have vilified an entire breed because of stupid humans.

Darin, that is what I am to understand as well. I wouldn't trust a child around the MinPins we had. This dog would totally love whatever life is around him. Got his tennis balls today, so he is going to town

You need to post a few more pictures in a few days. Love to see how he's doing! Will do. Poor WillyDog was too excitable whenever we had something in our hand. This one is different. He is probably the most perfect doggie for us. Sucker owns our backyard and he knows it

Here's the little Pit Mix living with us right now ... the Golden Retriever growled the first couple days but now she's captured his heart.

Sorry, but have you ever seen what they can do to a child? I have. Some dogs are not safe with children regardless of what their owners think. My uncles 9 year old Great Dane that wouldn't hurt anyone kill his granddaughter. A min pin isn't going to cripple a child for life, much less kill it. I am sure that most of them are great dogs, but you can never be sure. Homeowners insurance doubles if you own one. This is not arbitrary, but based on statistics.
