I watch a lot of old movies and TV shows, and one of the things I enjoy is the performances of character actors in film. I was curious how many of my fellow forum members have favorite character actors that they like to see and who they are.
Here's my list: Myron Healey, Edgar Buchanan, Herb Vigran, Allan Jenkins, Ben Weldon, Tris Coffin, Hank Patterson, Eugene Pallette, Alan Hale Sr. and Jr., Trevor Bardette, Gerald Mohr, Donald Crisp, Percy Helton, Richard Elliot, Claude Akins (who occasional was a star), among many others.

With you on all of those. Percy Helton was creepy in his way
Keye Luke Herb Rudely Byron Foulger, little guy who once threatened to punch Errol Flynn for hitting on his wife Conrad Nagel, though more of a star at one time Fred Kohler William Frawly Frank Cady Charles Lane Wallace Ford Charles Bickford, star turned Character Actor Anna May Wong, subject of my book, Star turned Char Actress Don Rickles, yes he was Philip Ahn Victor Sen Yung Warner Oland, Character Star Rex Ingram the only one I know who played God and the Devil in different movies Oscar Polk Hattie McDaniel John Carradine John Dehner, Have Gun Will Travel on radio George Stone, Boston Blackie's sidekick Edna Mae Oliver Richard Lane William Demarest Albert Salmi, one of the best
Not that I have an opinion, mind you

Elisha Cook was a good catch. Was trying to think of him Chill Wills, great in the Alamo Richard Derr - When Worlds Collide Richard Denning Numerous "out there" movies
Probably the biggest one that I missed on first pass. William Lundigan - Was a grade B star, many midnight flicks. he was the star of the 1959 series Men Into Space, which I watch the full season quite often
Leo G. Carroll Peter Graves, many cheezy sci-fis and who can forget: Do you like to see men dressed up as gladiators. Hey, Scruffy's a body dog!

Some of my favorites: Noah Beery, Strother Martin, Harry Morgan, Ben Johnson, Slim Pickens, Ray Walston, Dub Taylor, Arthur Hunnicutt, Ward Bond, Leo Gordon, Robert Wilke, Jack Elam, Skip Homeier, Jeff Corey, John Dehner, John Fiedler and Ellen Corby.
I always enjoyed the color that was added in Westerns by guys like Noah Beery, Harry Morgan, Strother Martin and Dub Taylor. Two of my favorite heavies are Leo Gordon and Robert Wilke. Ray Walston was always just plain fun to watch.

I've always been in love with character actors. Even as a little kid, nothing was more exciting than watching an episode of Bonanza and seeing George Peppard from A-Team or some like instance. Tracy Walter David Huddleston Bill Duke Sid Haig JT Walsh Joe Don Baker Michael Starr Pete Postlethwaite Kevin Tighe Brion James Robert Prosky John Caroll Lynch Mickey Jones Barry Corbin Ed Lauter Slim Pickens Wallace Shawn Charles Napier Allan Graf F Murray Abraham Jeffrey Jones Jack Warden Jason Robards Mako Sven-Ole Thorson Brad Dourif Jeffrey Lewis Clint Howard So many more. Sad that I had to look many of these people up on IMDB by the roles I remember them from. So much talent and such bodies of work and no one remembers their names... Also, I stumbled onto this list halfway through and it is loaded. Wish I had found it at the start. haha 300 Underated Character Actors

The generation gap is evident in my choices. haha Though all the guys from your lists who were on Bonanza or Gunsmoke, I know pretty well. Strother Martin is a good example.
Million dollar question. Who is the old guy from pretty much every western. He had a comical voice and was a kind of comic relief in most parts he played. He was the field cook on a couple early episodes of Bonanza.. I'm drawing a blank. He looks a little like the fella in David's Profile pic, but with a rounder face. Real descriptive, I know... haha

Gabby Hayes Andy Devine
After that, I need more hints
Oh, Walter Brennan needs to go on the list if it was not. Three time Oscar winner for supporting. Starred in Real McCoys and my beloved Guns of Will Sonnett

Edgar Buchanan! I'm wrong. It isn't him, but does he have a goofy doppelganger? haha No I'm wrong again and two negatives makes a right. I know it is him because he plays the same role on McClintock

Zerbe always plays a bad guy with a flaw or a good guy with a twist. He quit some years due to some religion thing. Recently coming back. Truly one of my faves

I recall there were episodes of struggle with Soviet Cosmonauts on the Moon. A six gun was involved and I wondered how that would work in Space.

Not sure if it's who you're thinking of but I always enjoyed Jack Elam in those roles.
