You made me smile, the wife really smiled when I read the part about the checkoff list in front of an unruly child, I could just picture it in my mind. That was great.

I know this is a little late in mentioning, but 2018 was my first year as a Mall Santa and I made decent (in my opinion) money doing it. Even got a bonus from the photography company and asked to come back this year. I'm also attending my first Professional Santa seminar in September. I did do a follow post in 2018, also. I'm already getting ready for the season. Hey! If the stores can start putting out Christmas stuff in July, I can get ready also. Bought a new flat cap just for the season.

Love the flat cap, Pj...and the story, too. Bookmarked your page and will be following your adventures...great beard, too!

Really enjoyed the story. Nothing like a Christmas story on a hot August day to make one feel a bit cooler.

Coincidentally, there was a big Santa Claus convention in Denmark this weekend (Sky News report), but they didn't comment on why it was being held in August.

Because all the Claus's are too busy during November & December. There are a couple of big Santa conventions in the U.S. every year. One in Branson, Missouri and one in Gatlinburg, Tennessee that I know of. These usually have 200 or more in attendance and features all types of seminars and lectures. Then there are usually two or three classes, seminars or workshops put on every month from April to October. I'm going to one in early September.

Well, I left myself open for that one. I meant wearing all that gear in Summer (and they were in full regalia). I am heat sensitive and couldn't wear that suit in December.

Some of the suits aren't as hot as they may seem. The one I wore last year was made from a thicker material but it was also designed to breathe as you moved around. It was hotter if I just sat still. The new suit I bought for this year is a velvet suit that is actually lighter material and it is also lined which will make it cooler. A lot of Santa's living in the south also use cooling vests under their suits which keeps their core body temperature cool as well as provide some bulk around the middle.

That was a great read. Thanks for that, Joe. If I could grow a beard as good as yours I would definitely be Santa when I'm older - something to do around Christmas when I'm retired, I'm thinking.

Want to hear something funny? My last name is Noel. For real. No kidding. It is Latin for "Christmas". I grow a very full beard (though it's only about 1/2 grey) and I'm an active Christian, or try to be. But I don't celebrate Christmas at all. I'm not at all opposed to it, I just don't care about it myself. I haven't had a tree in almost 20 years. Maybe it's because of the family name instead of in spite of it. I dunno.
But from Thanksgiving on, you gotta burn the stump and sift the ashes to find me in a department store. And carols positively make my teeth hurt. Weird.
