Given the state of the weather here, I always wear gloves when out and about. I also adopted that method of coughing or sneezing into the crook of my elbow.

Seldom truly afraid of *anything*, I have been laying low and staying in the house as much as possible. Worst influenza outbreak in my lifetime.

Here when an outbreak of whatever is bad enough they hold a massive vaccination or inoculation campaign in the subway stations or at the major bus stations but I've yet to see signs of one this year. I sure hope our health cordon holds and we don't catch whatever is going around up north.

On week three of trying to shake it's hold on me. Lingering head cold like symptoms. Several years back, I had the H1N1, or believe I did. Doctors would not see me based on my symptoms because of the risk of infecting others at their office. They advised lots of rest and the usual stuff I would do anyway. That was the worst I have ever felt. Joint and muscle aches and pains from hell. Then pneumonia set in for about two months after. Did some damage to my lungs for sure. This flu is nothing by comparison for me.

It's Respiratory Virus season ... certainly not just flu.
We've been seeing positive results for Metapneumovirus, Coronavirus, Parainfluenza, Rhinovirus and Respiratory Syncytial Virus, to name a few.
That last one, RSV, can hang on for a LONG time.

While there are over 200 viruses that can cause a "cold", Rhinovirus and it's ilk make up around 50% of the cases. All the best to you, Don, and a speedy recovery!

16 of the 32 people who responded to the thread " What caused your GBS/CIDP auto immune disease?", got their life ruining disease within 2 weeks of getting a flu shot. The guy who sat next to me getting our weekly IV Infusions also got his from it. The local rep we have got his settlement money recently from the National Vaccine Compensation Fund after getting his life ruined from a flu shot. When there's a national compensation fund giving out millions of dollars to make up for ruining lives, one needs to think about injection of biological agents that make your immune system have to go into attack mode. In most of our cases, the immune system goes haywire and ruins your life.
My wife worked at an Urgent Care years ago and she was talked into getting a flu shot, so she got the flu, and was near hospitalized. It was the sickest I've ever seen her in 39 years of marriage. She hasn't taken one since.

It wasn't categorized as such by the urgent care folks, but I believe that is the diagnosis...I started getting symptoms on Monday, tried to ride it out as it only seemed like a cold for a few days, by Thursday, I had deep lung rattles and a nasty cough progressively getting worse, went to the doctor on Friday....all my symptoms are in the lungs, slight weakness and soreness throughout the body. At Urgent Care: Immediate steroid injection in the tush A breathing treatment in the office And prescriptions for: A breathing treatment machine with Iprat/ Albuterol inhalant Flonase Ventolin Inhaler Prednisone tablets (steroids) Benzonatate to quell lung congestion A pretty aggressive approach that gave almost instantaneous relief, that seems to improve by the hour.

The way they came at you with steroids sounds like bronchitis on top of it. Glad they didn't just give you a broad spectrum antibiotic and shoot you out the door. Also great to hear that you're feeling better already!

My only current loophole is to plea "Religious/Philosophical" reasons and wear a mask all season.

If so, what in the vaccine do you suppose is the causative factor? Proven to be the source in some auto immune cases, and I'll repeat SOME cases. We are all nothing more than biological organisms. When you inject a dead or live biological vaccine into your body, with the sole point of triggering your immune system to attack the foreign substances and "build up" your system, there is a percentage of people whose immune systems go out of control and ruin or destroy your body. Hence the need for a National Vaccine Compensation Fund. I cannot answer as to what specific components in the vaccine cause disease as everyone has a different makeup.

Foreign proteins, genetically modified organisms, human and bovine serum albumin, Thimerisol, etc ...
There are many things present that could cause a false immune reaction in some individuals.
Example: Post-Streptococcal Glomerulonephritis ...the body recognizes the kidney membrane cells as Strep group A and attacks them.
It's actually not that difficult for the immune system to get confused and some people are predisposed to it.

I have spent the last two days really weak, lung congestion settled down somewhat but there is a constant deep rattle in the lungs, and now I’m coughing up blood.
Heading off to my primary care doctor today, stuck seeing the NP though.
Hope I recover in time for Saturday’s Pipe Club meeting.

Sorry to hear that, Charlie ... it sounded like you were on the mend. You didn't mention antibiotics in the post about the previous visit ... perhaps it's time now? Best wishes, as always, and a speedy recovery!

I like the NP's where I go; actually would rather have one than my doctor - they are more conscientious in my experiences.

Yeah...the NP's are really good in the office, and everyone of them are probably on par with my doctor for any advice that i ever need, I am in generally very good health. They put me on antibiotics just to be safe and had some chest x-rays performed to rule out pneumonia. Last night I was completely dehydrated, I have been drinking water like a fish, but a light turned on when I felt bloated...water just wasn't doing it...sucking on ice chips sure helped. Realized that due to the steroids, I hadn't had bowel movements for days, took Milk of Magnesia, and that really helped a lot. it looks like I am off work for the rest of the week. As I said earlier, I know three people that have had life threatening experiences in the last month from complications of what I am facing, one guy at work, it went from his lungs to his heart...now his heart is toast, I think he is waiting for a heart transplant now. Up until last week, I slip seated a truck with another guy, he drove it during the day...I came in one night and he looked like hell, his eyes were glossed over and looked like he had been through the milll. I asked him if he was sick..."No, I am only tired"...He called off sick the next day and even with wiping down everything in the truck with lysol wipes, I think I got it from him. As of next week, I don't share a truck with anyone else...and I am going off the road, paychecks will be smaller, but I will be working days and doing city driving...I won't be as dog arse tired for the pipe club meetings though, and I can now attend cigar/ scotch and whiskey nights at the cigar shops!

Tell her the high salt content of snuff is good for soothing your nose and killing the bugs.

The stuff is no joke. Don't know if it's the same crap, but I fought it for about 6 weeks, back in Sep & Oct. Didn't smoke a pipe for over a month.
