Local news, moments ago... 3 guys in a car rob a vehicle... cops watching... cop arrives to arrest... guys in car run him over... another cop shows up, points gun at driver, doesn't shoot because *it's against SFPD policy*... WHAT?

WHAT? How was it resolved? I'm guessing that the cop figured there was another way to resolve the situation other than shooting. If the policy was never to shoot or only under direct authorization it stands to reason that he'd either not carry a gun or keep it locked in his vehicle.

Arm yourselves, people! "Zombies" aren't really living-dead, brain-eaters ... but they are dangerous. They'll invade your space and home with no remorse and it's best to shoot on site. My personal choice is the Mossberg 500 Tactical 12 gauge and a .38 revolver with +P hollow-points on rapid loaders.

Well the cops are damned if they do and damned if they don't, even in Texas. I imagine in SF even a justified shooting is the end of the cops career and a huge headache for the city. You guys have great food, but otherwise are not based on reality.

There are still ways to defend yourself ... even in CA:
Weapons that may be carried openly upon the person or within the passenger area of a vehicle, but may not be concealed upon the person
- Any dirk or dagger. "Dirk" and "dagger" are both synonymous terms for stabbing weapons.
Weapons that may be carried and concealed upon the person, subject to some restrictions. Generally, law-abiding adults may possess weapons in this category for self-defense.
- Tear gas / pepper spray - Stun guns - Folding knifes, as long as the blade is not open and locked into place while concealed.
So ... spray the Zombies in the eyes, stun them to the ground and impale them with your Dirk. (that last part sounded nasty!)

I agree, Ron. A cops job is harder than ever now.

Apologies to anyone offended by this post. In my defense, I did post in "General Discussion."

There has been a negative bent on this forum for the new year. Some members seem cranky and a few spoiling for a fight, imo. This seems (another) thread that will shortly be locked.

San Francisco has some deeply systemic problems that have plagued it for decades..when I lived there, if you were murdered, there was a one in 4 chance that your killer would ever see justice...that was under DA Terence Hallinan.
Police Chief Heather Fong refused to attend firearms proficiency training for years, one of her most basic duties.
"Gas Can" Gascon, left Mesa Az. to the Golden Gate...he was a pretty lousy guy to draft, but fit the bill for them.
I will leave it at that...they have serious failures in their system of management, and it will show up down the ranks in the same manner.

I remember watching "The Summer of Love" on the news when I was 17. I love Jefferson Airplane. I have been treated like a hick when I was working there, and I have held a grudge against SF for decades. I now believe that we need to keep SF, well, SF. It's unique. Kinda like there's no reason for New Orleans, but we want it anyway. I am not sure about if we need the 9th District Court. (Joking)

Not every county can have very fine law enforcement officials like Joe Arpaio and David Clarke.

Not every county can have very fine law enforcement officials like Joe Arpaio and David Clarke. Arpaio did some things right, but he screwed the pooch on using the office on self promotion and letting his underlings like Hendershott corrupt the department....going political in his vendetta's also had predictable results. My son in law is a deputy warden in the state prison system, he says that under Arpaio the prisoners were glad to get transferred to state prison from Maricopa county jail, they hated tent city even though our soldiers, who did no wrong live in tents at times, and they hated the crappy food. In state prison the food is much better, ($1.27 per meal as opposed to as opposed to Arpaio's .65 cents per meal) much more hospitable with A/C and accomodating to the lifestyle they have come to expect. Arpaio, could have left a great legacy, but like so many that enter public life, the power goes to their heads.

This forum is not for politics, or anything that will likely go down that road of discussion. I know we have some new members here, so maybe it's just not clear enough. I would encourage everyone to read the Community Guidelines again.
If you want to have a discussion like this, find another forum where it's more appropriate. Just because it was put in "General Discussion" doesn't make it OK.
Please, stop testing the waters. I'm a pretty laid back person with a lot of patience, so please don't wear it thin.
