I suspect some of you have seen this, but I could not resist... "Since it first arrived at the Smithsonian more than 30 years ago, Einstein’s pipe isn’t just a notable personal item from one of history’s great thinkers, it is also the most popular single exhibit in the museum’s entire modern physics collection ..."

It looked even more beat-up in person.

Hmm - I guess if Einstein puffed Dunhills, they would have been quick to promote that. Einstein didn't have much money, and in those days, professors at Princeton and elsewhere did not make the kind of money a few of the current rock stars make. He gave his Nobel Prize to his ex-wife and children, one of whom was very ill. If he were alive today, he could have carpooled to our Morley's Pipe Club with other Princeton members.

And I guess everyone knows that Einstein married his cousin. When asked by the press about this he said he married her because she was "well endowed" This later became known as the Theory of Relative Titty.

In the physics vein, although not Einsteinian, I have noticed proof of the Doppler effect. The lights on cars moving away from me are red .

While that French promo pipe, was most likely, satisfactory, you'd think someone would have gifted him something better, during the course of his smoking life.

If Dunhill, hell even Peterson had the foresight, they could have offered to make commissioned pipes for him, they could have set themselves up for printing their own cash for eternity. I guess this would be filed under amazing pipe makers follies of the 20th century.

Guess it was a promo freebie stuck to the side of a bottle on Cointreau?

But if he had a complimentary pipe from a bottle of Cointreau because back then he couldn't afford a proper pipe, how then could he afford a bottle of Cointreau, which were imported from France even?

He probably wasn't particularly poor. He left Germany with a work visa provided by the university which also let him live in a house rent free. Given the circumstances he probably didn't negotiate too hard but still, I'd guess he'd have several pipes and that was just the one he liked best.

He gave his ex-wife the Nobel money in lieu of alimony.

I wonder will that person smoke the pipe.
I'm pretty sure they won't, but you do get the odd occasion when someone with too much money does something like that so they can say they smoke Einstein's pipe.

Honestly, If I paid $70K for Einsteins pipe....I would totally smoke it. Working at a University and being a Doctor myself, I would pull it out for faculty functions to use and show off. Special occasions only, but I would definitely use it. I hate buying things "For display purposes only", drives my wife nuts when she's looking for knick knacks as I tend to make them disappear after a while. (You'd think she would have learned by now)

Finance. Just finished everything up last year, and am looking forward to the job market interviews in october and spending two weeks filling out applications for 30 minute make-it-or-break-it interviews. <insert sarcastic tone> This time next year, no stress, more pipe smoking, and hopefully at a campus where they allow smoking somewhere, unlike my current one which banned all forms of tobacco on the campus grounds (except e-cigs are allowed which pisses me off to no end).

The first time I saw that pipe of Einstein's I thought that he just liked smoking and didn't care all that much about what pipe he used. But still, I wanted a pipe like that, not that I have anything in common with his intellect. So I found an old WDC apple shape like that on eBay, and use it to smoke C&D Epiphany which is a supposed match for the Revelation tobacco he smoked quite a bit. I've also tried Revelation Match but find that for me I like Epiphany better. Never tried Revelation so I don't know which comes the closest to it. All I know is that when I smoke Epiphany in that WDC I come away feeling smarter.

I think I had some when I was younger, but I can't remember any.
