Hi All,
I've gotta say I came here by accident, but I'm glad I did.
After a few years of lurking around another Pipe Smoking Forum site, I finally decided to register but my registration was rejected with no details as to why. And even after trying to contact the website, I've had no response. I was quite disappointed...but I'm not here to have a go at another site - they do what they do and who am I to argue?
Anyway, as a result, I looked around and found this place and I've been allowed to join - whoop whoop. I'm glad I'm here.
I've been smoking a pipe for a few years now, but I'm not a regular smoker (I wouldn't class myself as a smoker). I would have a pipe on a sunny day, and living in Ireland, those days are few and far between. So it works out about a handful of times a year, with the occasional pipe in my garage if I take the notion - but smoking outside is the way for me. I love the mixture of smoke and fresh air - not that I inhale.
This frequency is about right since my wife, who is a nurse, isn't terribly happy with my new-found hobby. To be fair, I think that a handful of BBQs throughout the year would probably see more smoke go into my lungs than 20 or so pipes.
So, I'm not an expert but I know what I like and I know what works for me and I'm happy to continue to learn and contribute as best as I can in a place that is happy to have me.
So here I am and I'm not going anywhere soon.
LL

Welcome aboard. It's always a pleasure to have someone from outside the USA to give us a perspective on the hobby from their own country. Jump right into the fray and enjoy yourself.

Welcome, some of my ancestors came from County Armagh. That's where I'm currently living. It's a small world! Not sure I'll have much of a perspective from over here, but happy to give my 2 cents worth.

Welcome from Humble Texas! My ancestors were also from the area. One was a surgeon who died of exhaustion in the Siege of Londonderry in 1688.

Wow. What a welcome. Thank you all. I'm truly humbled.
As for the BBQ reference....not a good enough argument for my wife I'm afraid, but she has come round somewhat.

Not sure I'll have much of a perspective from over here, but happy to give my 2 cents worth. I have most of my genealogy things stored, but off the top of my head many in my family emigrated in the early part of the Nineteenth Century. They settled in a town that became known as Armargh, Pennsylvania. I have most records in storage.

welcome from Charleston, WV! So glad to have you here. My hubby was not too happy when I took up the pipe, but after hanging around with those in my pipe club and them explaining the differences between cigarettes and pipe tobacco he is more accepting of it (it helps that I don't inhale and typically use filters) Hopefully your wife will come around. Very interested in hearing your experiences.

Sheesh, as if the guys from out west weren't bad enough... now we have foreigners?!? I might have to turn on the "Review New Members" feature. Just kidding. Glad to have someone from across the pond with us. Enjoy and don't be afraid to jump in the fray.
