So to my betters, the veterans of pipe smoking, I have a question. I'm in the market for a new lighter. Right now I'm using a thunderbird Zippo insert and when it works it is great, but I have a problem with the flame consistently being very small even when I have the setting wheel up. I'm thinking about a xikar, but I'm seeking the knowledge of those with more experience in these things.

I picked up all three xikars from ebay for a song, I really like the lifetime warranty. We recently experienced a snow storm of pretty epic proportions and I dropped the scribe in a drift and found it after the melt added a new flint and off it went. I use the old boy style lighter on occasion, but I think it may leak. I use the resource as my truck lighter as it doesnt require me to look at it, I just click it and apply to tobacco. I know when they eventually give me problems they will be repaired/replaced no questions asked. The resource has the biggest tank, and is the middle priced of the three. So far I really dig it best of the three.

In my experience nothing beats an IM Corona pipe lighter. My current favorite is the Pipemaster. It has an electronic ignition a large fuel capacity and a nice long built in tamper. It has worked perfectly for over 5 years now. I also have a couple of the IM Corona Old Boys. Those are a more classic lighter that uses a flint. It also has a built in tamper. What I like most about IM Corona is their dependability. My oldest is going on 20 years. In the first pic is my Pipemaster, the second is one of my Old Boy's.

I use a Zippo on my every day pipes; however, no way to go wrong on an Old Boy for the special ones. A Bic will work fine too.
