Isn't Captain Black Grape all humectant--with a little tobacco flavor? Don't knock it if you are too chicken to try it. It great in a Danish Reformed Stack! 😨😁

Wow. I now understand why smoking pipes are pretty much limited to briar in the wood department. I also heard cherry is used, but not sure. This was an educational thread. Thanks I have several Ropp cherry wood Cherrywoods. Fantastic smokers.

Took my baby to get her 6 mo. shots today. Poor thing really hated it. Smoked a little bit of a bulk English blend from my MM Mark Twain (that thing's rapidly becoming my working pipe). Did a little bit of work on a little restoration I'm doing. The stem is giving me hell. I've been buffing it like crazy with carnauba wax, but it's not helping much. I guess I'm gonna have to get something else. Cheers, JD Carnauba wax is just going to shine it up, it won't remove oxidation. If it's BADLY oxidized, you're gonna need some 400 grit, then 600 grit, etc. - or get on of those 6 sided Emory board thingies. Do you have a buffing wheel? I got all the oxidation off. I just need to get it shiny again. I definitely need to get a buffing wheel.

Day started out cold and dreary...overcast and just plain nasty...sun has come out, warmed up a little too. Time to head out to the porch for a pleasant smoke...probably some Arango B.S.
P.O. has finally tracked down the package I sent to AJ...with his 5 cobs and Beattie jet lighter and a special tamper I made just for him...welcomed news on the website...Out for Delivery...finally!

Had trouble sleeping last night, bed at 11, up from 2-730, awake again at 800. However I did manage to get all my laundry done, clean out my car, straighten out the tobacco (writing) desk, shave my head, jar up some more tobacco before the next delivery today, vacuum, and clean up some pipes that have needed it.
4 pipes down already today, on track for about 10 more...

If not, my mind wanders and that's rarely a good, or cheap, thing. It's strange that even when I dont sleep well my body and mind just know that at 7am it's time to get going. I might get a nap around 3 or 4, if not, maybe I'll actually sleep tonight.

Been a good, if slightly boring, day. I'm currently sat in my car listening to NPR. They're playing some jazz hour. Never been a jazz guy, but I'm definitely enjoying it.
Smoking Carter Hall in my MM Mark Twain and backing it with water that I left in my car overnight. Hah hah.
Cheers, JD

We were just at our friend's house for dinner, and hang out. I'd made him a pipe two weeks ago for friends-mas (Christmas with friends). He really appreciates my pipe work, and his wife told my wife I could make him a pipe for Christmas if I wanted. So I did. He's never actually smoked a pipe before, but has the very occasional cigar. Anyway, I brought a bunch of tobaccos tonight, so he could give the pipe its maiden voyage. I brought Molto Dolce, Cult Profile, Bombadil, And So To Bed, Stonehenge Flake, and Black Frigate. He said, "Give me something with a lot of nice vanilla", so I let him smell the lot. I had decided to christen my newest pipe with Stonehenge. Well, out of all of them, he chose Stonehenge. So, we proceeded to go outside and light up. Wouldn't you know it, but he lit that thing, and smoked the whole bowl like an absolute pro, without a single relight. Beginner's luck, I guess. I've never seen anything like it. He loved every minute of it too. Looks like I have another pipe buddy!

His wife is going to regret telling your wife you could make him a pipe. She has no idea the can of worms she just opened!
