Work is taking me to Paris for the first time in a couple weeks. Anybody know of any good pipe shops? I can do a Google search myself. I’m looking for personal knowledge. I suspect that there isn’t anything that's really worth taking time away from my limited sightseeing time.
For sightseeing, my #1 must do, bucket list is the Louvre. Being a Napoleonic history buff, my #2 is Les Invalides which has the Army Museum and Napoleon's Tomb. If there is time, I might visit the Catacombs since they are very close to my hotel.

Don't know the pipe scene there John, but as a regular viewer of France/24, I know it will serve you well to stay alert and not take anything for granted.

You can just skip it. Give me a call and I'll insult you with an accent for free.

This is supposed to be a very good shop. www.pipe-du-nord.com/p/177/home.phpParis is the beautiful city in the world, IMO. I also found the people to be very nice. Enjoy your time there.

Catacombs for sure if you have time! Great falafel in the Maurais area. The Catacombs entrance is about 500m from the hotel where the trade show is at that I am working at. I’m hoping that if I get a 2 or 3 hour break, I can run over there.

There are so many great museums there - but I'll refrain from mentioning more since you only have a few days. The Louvre is definitely #1.

I want to go to visit an ancestor's grave in Montmartre cemetery. I am more interested in the Normandy and Lemans areas where both sides of my family came from.

My wife and I once went on vacation to London and picked our hotel because it was only a block and a half from the British Museum. Unfortunately, I will only have about a day and a half of free time out of the 6 days that I am in Paris.

Before anyone suggests it, I am staying too far away to afford spending free time on going to visit Jim Morrison's grave. Yes, that was actually near the top,of my possible things to do list. Besides, everyone knows he's not really there and that he’s somewhere in Africa.

I live near Detroit and visit relatives there often. Paul's Pipe Shop is in downtown Flint. I’ve been to Brazil multiple times. I think I’m ready. 😉

I have nothing to offer but jealousy. haha And as far as the ill manners go, I'm not sure I'd trust the old idioms. When you consider the average idiot American tourist that visits Paris in sweat pants and fanny-packs, it's easy to imagine them being talked down to. I have always heard the same thing about NY and in all the time I spent working there, I had never met such helpful, personable people. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was working and obviously not a tourist? But truth be told, when I see fat idiots with cameras in Hawaiian shirts and shorts stumbling around Pittsburgh, I cannot say I am overly nice to them.
Enjoy your trip. I'd kill to visit the Louvre.

My uncle was an executive at Intel, had his own private jet and took my aunt Barbara to Paris. They went to a fancy restaurant within view of the Eiffel tower and my aunt went to the ladies room. When she was in there, a lady handed out paper towels after people washed their hands...my aunt didn't know the exchange rate, and didn't want to give the gal a $100.00 tip for paper towels, motioned that she would be right back. Before she could get back to the table to consult with the Parisian they were dining with, coins bounced off my aunts back as ol' hagglettooth publicly cussed her out in an equally haggletooth screech fest.
My uncle said he was taken aback as a restroom attendant brushed the back of his coat as he was standing at the latrine doing business, but he guessed that the tip was appropriate, he didn't get a coin shower.
Hopefully things have changed.

Hi John. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Paris. Check the Louvre website, some days are free and some days have reduced admission Later in the day. It’s open till 9:45pm Weekends are crazy and check to make sure it’s not a holiday in France while you are there. Thise can be very busy. Like every museum in the world. Some exhibits may be closed for change etc. Again check the website. Plan what your priority is to see. And head there first. Trust me you will get side tracked on the way! ‘Hey Ive seen that before” The apartments alone can take well over an hour if you stop to read everything. Just remember you will not see it all!
I recommend the Eiffel tower at night if the weather is good, but again lines can be long. If your near Opera at all. Galeries Lafayette is a very large (and expensive) department store. That is very cool inside with its beautiful domed ceiling. But work your way to the top floor and they have a great roof top that is free. It’s a nice view of Paris. and their is cafe if you so chose.
As far as pipe shops I know of 2, but was not a pipe smoker then. I was just in Paris 3 weeks ago for a moment on a Sunday. The shops are closed on Sundays. Enoy your trip

Yes, the new owner, Marie - Aurélie, is doing a great job. She really works hard on getting a large range of high quality pipes. Don't expect much from the choice of tobaccos but do try a pouch of Caporal Export of Scaferlati Caporal bleu or rouge.

Brian Levine spent 3 or 4 days in Paree a week or so ago, and he said at every restaurant with outdoor tables they had ashtrays and he never got a second glance while smoking his pipe... very pipe friendly.

Is the B&M shop still in business..? Every pipe, I click on, has this text in the upper right corner: "Boutique en ligne fermée jusque fin juillet 2016". My French is rusty, but I get something like "The online shop is closed until end of July 2016". That's almost two years ago and you stiil can't put any pipe in the shopping cart.

If their website is for information purposes only, they should have written it somewhere and removed the shopping cart button. I got excited about some of their pipes, but...

I’m back from my business trip to Stockholm and Paris. I did not end up getting to any pipe shops while I was in Paris. My free time was spent visiting the Louvre and Les Invalides (Napoleon's Tomb and the French Army Museum).
