I've noticed a few people commenting on Germain's tobacco and, if I've remembered correctly, people seem to be fond of them. I noticed that it's available in the UK. Here's what's available on my local online boutique... 1820 Eighteen Twenty Brown Flake Cavendish & Virginia Full Latakia King Charles Mixture Medium Flake Original Latakia Mixture Perique Mixture Plum Cake Rich Dark Flake Special Latakia Flake Uncle Toms Virginia Goldleaf Are there any of these that are stand-out blends to you? I know this is completely subjective, but if there's a consensus that a certain blend is considered outstanding then I'll give it a shot and buy some. ...or maybe I completely misread the consensus on Germain's...

It's a hard question to answer. You have to decide whether you want a lighter English like King Charles or 1820, or something heavier like Special Latakia Flake, which has a nice Oriental spice content. If you like a mild aro, you may like Plum Cake. As for the Virginia blends, all of them are worthy of purchase, but if you like an excellent VaBur, try Rich Dark Flake. I haven't tried Virginia Goldleaf, so I can't comment on that one.

And I'll make a decision based on the responses.

Rich Dark Flake gets my vote.
Out of curiosity, what's the price for that there?

Rich Dark Flake gets my vote. Out of curiosity, what's the price for that there? It's £14.00 for 50g - that's just under $20, but I've noticed they have none of it in stock.

Can you order from the EU? If so, check out GQ Tobacco.

I also like RDF. Too bad we can no longer get it here in the US. Neither GQ, nor any other UK retailer that carries it will export to the US. It's a more interesting smoke than its sibling, Stonehaven, with a little more going on flavorwise. Like Stonehaven, getting the most out of it takes finding the precise moisture and sipping it very slowly.

You have a lot of people in the US salivating over your post. @legend Lover. That's what we get for all the McClelland posts, I guess. Germain is practically a cult among some pipe smokers, and they do make great blends. Along with RDF, a few other are not sold here - Full Latakia, Original Latakia Mixture, and VA Gold.
I'm not a fan of Plum Cake, but think 1820, King Charles, and Special Lat Flake are all great blends. I don't smoke a lot of straight VAs, but have enjoyed Brown Flake. The Royal Jersey series and Uncle Tom don't get very goo reviews, though I've never tried them.

Thanks for ruining my morning, bud. haha I suppose it is a case of 'the grass is always greener.' I know you had just recently mentioned a plethora of blends you could not locate in the UK. I wonder how stiff customs really are? They can't check every box.

Gotta get my own back somehow. I won't rub it in when I purchase some.

That's cool you have access to those offerings. I really dig 1820, my favorite of those I've tried but I can't remember the last time I saw it available here outside of the secondary market. King Charles, Medium and Brown Flakes are quite good too. They're all pretty tough finds on this side of the pond on any regular basis; however, every now and then even a blind squirell finds a nut somplace. Special Latakia Flake wasn't my thing but it's extremely popular here, loved by many. I haven't tried the others.
As others have stated, you'll have to give them a go and see how they fit your palate. Enjoy the ride.

The irony is that the consensus is that rdf is the most liked and it's the one that's out of stock. Lol

I like RDF a bit better than Stonehaven, and King Charles & 1820 are very nice English blends so easy to relax with. Give GQ a try... they take PayPal. www.gqtobaccos.com/germains-loose-pipe-tobacco/

1820 is great, but is unobtainium in the US. I don’t think that Germain's has shipped any here in a very long time.

But I should hear tomorrow or Wednesday if my order from GQ is being shipped. I reckon they're closed for the Easter break. Fingers crossed...no biggie. I'm in no rush, and if they don't have RDF I'll just order another blend.

The only tobacco on this list that I've had is Plum Cake, but it is a very good mild smoke with a pleasant, unobtrusive aroma. I gravitate toward this type of blend in the summer months when I want something light.

Well, another reminder of how much tastes vary... I was so ready to love Plum Cake based on the reviews and descriptions, but.... meh. Kind of generic with a subtle spicy maybe licoricey topping.

So if it's no different then it's like most of my other tobaccos which I still enjoy. If i do get something then great.
