I know religion is not a topic to be discussed, but I did say a prayer for Beardedpipesmoker's parents, and it occurred to me the extent of which there is an awesome sense of community in this place. This is unique, friends. It's hard to come by and I, for one, appreciate it.

I think that it is within the guidelines of the forum to ask for and offer prayers, I think that the rule is for theological discussions.

I'll say this, everyone ( in general) seems to be in a better frame of mind. Positive affect of Spring I suspect.

Pipe Smokers a unique family! Yea, I do feel a sense of family-ties here. This is my 500th post and I wouldn't have posted anywhere near this much in such a short space of time in the photography forum I used to frequent. Granted, it was a different forum, but still. Anyway, thanks to all for opening my eyes to a new world of pipe smoking and to new friends whom I would look-up should I ever travel to their neck of the woods.

...this is a unique community of folks...hopefully it will remain so...several forums I was a member of either closed-down, or folks just dropped out...For the most part, they were poorly run/managed or the admins "played games" and were simply unethical. For all the turmoil in the tobacco industry, this may be one of the few places to offer solace and friendship...

This club is growing in pretty good numbers. More importantly the quality is better for it. No one is afraid to say the word "prayer" even though we be different faiths. We all know that we mean to think/ponder good thoughts for our fellow pipe smokers
I don't want to take away from other groups. Though banned, many at Magazonia were the first to show me how much kindness there is in the community.
I just happen to be very happy and blessed here

I have to tell you all how gratifying reading threads like this is for the admin. When Justin (sparks) was thinking about starting this forum we had long discussions about what we wanted to be. First and foremost was a place where new and experienced pipe enthusiasts could gather comfortably and share experiences. No super egos or poseurs but just regular folk. Civility toward one another and building a caring community was the goal. I think we did that in spades and it is largely due to the people here who show one another respect. When I read about random acts of kindness performed by members is truly gladdens my heart and shows we've achieved our original goals. As we've grown we've added categories for you to create posts; largely because you requested them. We do listen. All we can ask is that you continue to enjoy yourselves here, contribute to the hobby and treat each other well. Thank you to all participants.
John

I also heard that churchmen would sit near the back by a window to watch over the congregants and when needed to, they would use the stem to nudge a person as a gentle rebuke....
The doors here are certainly open 24/7, I picture the mods sitting there with a churchwarden ready to act.....it is a rare thing that they have do so, and the response is pretty well measured for the offence.

Great bunch of people. It's nice to have a place to stop in for awhile and get some enthusiastic feedback on a hobby that sadly, none of my regular friends have any interest in.

I'm not sure I can say it any better than John already did. I had a vision of a unique community. I think we succeeded. As I have said before and I will say again, none of it would have happened without you guys.
We have a great group of people here, and I'm happy that I had a small part in bringing you all together. Though I wish I could be around more, I'm always thrilled when I pop on and see 3 pages of recent posts to catch up on.
Thanks everyone.

I am happy that JimInks directed me to this forum; the generosity and friendliness of the members is refreshing. The admins are conscientious and fair and don't play favorites and don't boot people for no reason, like another forum that I know of.

I log on frequently during the day to keep up with the new posts. I hate it when the recent threads page overflows to a second page. Problem is that most of the action happens during the night for me.

Could not agree more with the comments above.
The lack of drama here is quite unique and refreshing.

Stanhill, I am just a regular member, but I love keeping up with you all in foreign countries. You are very welcome here. I've never been out of the 48 States, so it's really a joy to keep up with the world, especially from the view of my pipe and smoke. David

I never been to the USA, but I like reading about all the American tobaccos we can't get here in Europe anymore; I get all worked up, but also know what would happen if I ordered some. I'd dearly like a tub of Prince Albert and that Lane remake of Edgeworth; two of the tobaccos I was tobacco-raised on, because my Father smoked them, but The Danish customs would have a field day and I'd be fleeced, not pleased.

Sounds really sad considering the Danish influence on pipe smoking....the superstars of pipe making and fine tobacco companies like MacBaren..... It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad world.
