So, hubby and I were married April 27th, 1996, and every year once April 1st arrives I look forward all month to our next anniversary. I've kind of turned the entire month into our anniversary celebration. So, I'm going to be posting and gushing about hubby and our love story, so if is of no interest just pass this thread on by....
Hubby and I met in college. He had been in the Marines and was discharged due to an injury. With his severence pay he went to college. He had been there a year by the time I got there. I went there straight after graduating from high school. We ended up being in the same circle of friends who always ate together at meals. He admits that at the time he never considered me, though I was pretty, he considered me too young. But we considered each other friends. He was easy to talk to and I knew I could call him in a pinch. In fact, I did once. I had a horrible headache one Saturday, and didn't have any aspirin. I knew he frequently had back pain so I called and asked for some aspirin. He brought it over for me.

That is really cool for both of you couples. Xuan and I hit 33 in a couple months. I always start saying the updated year a few months early, as Xuan does.
We do very little on days like this. We are seldom more than fifteen feet from each other and we share our little joys all day long. We do note the day and maybe a special meal. We're just inseparable.

hubby works, sometimes on weekends. he takes me with him when he can. i go most places with him except annual training. whenever someone sees me they know he is in the area, lol. if we are fortunate this year we can escape to the family cabin for our anniversary weekend, much like we did for our honeymoon.

Congratulations. I am now divorced, but was married for 20 years. I make jokes about marriage now, but have always envied those who manage to make it work. Good on both of you. And you get to celebrate for an entire month....

What an endearing story. Comes September, DW and I have been married for a year... No, wait.. DW tells me that we've been married for 20 years. Good heavens, how time flies. It's her birthday on the 26th of April and on that day, I'll drink a cup to her and Peter Buffalo Spirit and on the next day I'll drink a cup to thee, M'Lady.

lol, that is a story in itself! when Desert Storm came up hubby thought he might be able to get back into the Marines. by this time his injury had healed. they wouldn't take him back, but the Army Reserve would take him. He showed up at his new unit as a supply clerk and the CO looked up from his file and asked, How would you like to be a drill? Hubby said sure, it beats being a supply clerk. So, he went to drill school and wore the hat 12 years.

So, a little backstory. How did hubby and I end up in the same circle of friends? Well, I had met two guys in summer camp several years before. One was a counselor (and the one I was really interested in) and another was a camper who developed an interest in me. I give you this photo for context, lol
I always had long hair, and I usually had it in a long braid down my back. I was the first one to get to the next session at camp one day, and this other guy arrives, and he tugs on my braid. As he later described it, I whipped my head around (yes, I was adept at using my braid as a weapon, lol) and there was murder in my eyes. I don't like anyone touching my hair, especially yanking on my braid. But he quickly apologized and we got to talking. Unfortunately I didn't realize that just acknowledging him was in his mind the same as accepting an unspoken marriage proposal. I liked him as a friend. I had a good guy friend I'd known since 6th grade (and we are still good friends) so I thought nothing of being buddies with another guy, especially since he seemed to need one, he didn't seem to have any others there except the counselor I mentioned earlier.
We kept in contact after camp, writing letters, an occasional phone call, and we would visit each other.
Those are his two sisters and that is my goofy brother between us.
He went off to college and suddenly he started talking like we were dating. I told him multiple times we were just friends. Eventually the dating talk went away and I thought we had an understanding. I found out later that we didn't. Hubby is fond of saying he knew everything about me before I ever got to college, because this guy talked incessantly about me and would tell anyone who would listen how we were going to get married. I was clueless to this fact until hubby and I began dating, lol. But yeah, this guy and the counselor both went to the college I went to and hubby was in their group of friends. Because I already knew the two guys I just slipped right into that group and hubby and I ended up as friends by default, lol.

So, I've been distracted from this thread due to Pipe Show, injury, etc. Time to get back to it
When I arrived at college, the group was already established and I just slipped right in. This group also included hubby's girlfriend. We were in the same dorm so I ended up spending a lot of time with her. I was usually going out with them to different things. They were both on the local volunteer fire department so I was taken to dinners, etc. that took place there. By Christmas they were planning their wedding and the second semester I ran around with her as she made preparations. They were married the afternoon of graduation. She actually graduated that day, hubby was had just finished his sophomore year. The fire department had let them move a trailer onto their lot and that was where they were going to live while hubby continued school. I was supposed to go to the wedding, but my father was not doing well that day so we went home instead.
I don't really have any photos that fit with this part of the story, but I'll include a couple to amuse you. They were from a Sunday School picnic my senior year of high school. This was the extent of my sports career, lol. My Dad took the photos.
