Home of the Dented Can was a slogan for a discount food store here used back before the Days of Yore. Two pics below. Tin is dented on both sides, pretty badly, though I guess the seal is still intact.
Reason I post this as I have read members act like this is unacceptable. I have received many a dented tin, though never so bad it affected the ability to unscrew it. As soon as I open it up I know I'll have to jar it as it will never close tightly if at all again. If the seal is broken, which I don't know, I should open it right away rather than let it sit exposed.
I should add that this was in bubble in the middle of the box. It was shipped this way, as nothing around it was surrounded by bulk.
Also, My choice (though I won't vote) is to keep it and not say anything. I just want comments on if this is acceptable to you all.

As long as the seal is good, keep it. I don't recognize the tin. Maybe that's the best tin that they have left?

David, you seem to have a dark cloud over you when dealing with a certain etailer. My suggestion is stop ordering from.them. if you want something that they have try and make a trade or or buy from another member what you want. If they have ithave.them sent it to you and you order it from the etailer and have it shipped to the member to replace what was sent to you. If you keep this up you are going to go mad eith.each shipment you receive. Just my two cents.

I would keep it, much as I would keep a dented tin of corn or something. Might change my mind depending on how long it took me to open though

It was not the only dented can I received, but was the worst. I only ask because it was mentioned before in other threads. You may assume what you wish about whom it was from. You have a 1 in 5 chance being right.

can you smell the tobacco? No, but that's a good point. I had to open it and am smoking it. It's fine. My reason for asking was consensus (I know you didn't ask RWK) not to complain. I saw someone go ballistic in another forum. I don't let Xuan return stuff without a major reason. Edit - One of my other shipments was two tins sent in a bubble Manila. Both cans fine, but I was not fond of that either.

I would send a note to the folks you bought it from,Could be they will send you another tin and you will have both.At least they should give you a credit for what you paid for it.

When my totally messed up box came a few weeks ago I posted it. Why shouldn't I let people see was my attitude. I did contact CServe and they apologized. I did't ask for anything then and am not now. If this was anything other than a forum I belonged to I wouldn't have brought it up. I just remember some grousing when it happened to others. Tobacco is great, btw

Since you've opened it and the smoke is fine then any further comment is kind of moot. But just to put in my 2 cents,I would open and verify the contents also. But I would have pictures of the tobacco upon opening. That way if it is moldy or completely dried out,I could send the pic with an email to CS asking for compensation.I have recieved many goods in dented tins, cans, and boxes.I've found they are slower to replace an order than to ship a new order. It's the contents that matter,if they are fine,I can always find a better container.

Absolutely,,,Don't ever take a chance that the seal popped after packing. Any way,if you end up aging part of it you can then compare notes as to new or aged. Can't do that if you just toss it in the cellar.

I knew if I kept my eyes open long enough you'd be here, antb . Yes, I am going to smoke with delight. As mentioned, I had no intention of returning it. I just felt like a washwoman wanting to gossip a little. Have a wonderful weekend Have to wonder how the poll would go if it were Exotic Orange or Frog Morton that got dinged.

Love the new avatar.....sweet pic!! Xuan and I, along with 2 nieces we raised, survived for years on dented tins and bargain buys. I'm not as cranky as I seem. Even less cranky after smoking it.

Keep it, open it, smoke it....see, life is really simple. I heartily agree, antb. I once found a piece of foam rubber in a tin of Blue Capstan Ready Rubbed (Ready Rubbered..?), so I wrote a very polite mail, including a photo, to Mac Baren, offering to return the little bit of rubber, if it's missing somewhere in production and they've been searching for it. I got a very nice reply and they sent me a two-year-old tin of the flake version. That's customer service. And they didn't even want the little rubber bit back.

A few years back I bought 7 or 8 vintage tins from an Etailer (not in Texas), the box arrived with forklift tracks across one end. Tins were almost flattened. When I sent the seller a picture he asked If I wanted a refund. Said as they were bought for the packaging, being collectable tins, I thought a $2.00 refund would be fair. Refund was made and tobacco was bottled up.

Surprised that not one person who voted to return them has not chimed in, in the comments

If I planned on opening and smoking right away, I'd do just that. If it was bought to cellar or just to try later, I'd return it if the seal was broken.
I probably already told my comparative stories of returning dented tons to SP and to CI. I sent pics to both, and SP just sent a replacement the same day and said to keep the dented one. CI agreed to send a new one, but arranged a UPS pick-up of the dented tin without informing me, which was kind of weird, especially considering the value of a single tin. I didn't mind, of course, but it was odd when the UPS guy showed up like a month later, and I had to try to figure out what the hell it was all about.

Depends if the dent had any impact on the contents!

Surprised that not one person who voted to return them has not chimed in, in the comments Just to play Devil's Advocate,Since the tin was wrapped in bubble wrap and then placed in the middle of the bulk items for further protection,I would assume that the vender knew of the dented tin prior to shipment.Their choice to include a damaged product in my order is Highly Insulting and I would confront them as being disrespectful to their customer base.If that is the attitude they wish to adopt, then I would have no other choice but to make a public outcry including pictures and screen shots of their inept attempts to placate me. But me being me,I'ld just open it and jar it.Smoke it like there's no tomorrow.

Having been a peddler/vendor for a while if I had dented cans I offered discounts, but never tried to float one by a customer. There was no way the damage was done in shipping. Bubble wrap and in the middle of several bulks

When the dent is on the lid/rim like that, there is a high probability that the seal has been compromised. If you don't return it, then definitely open it and jar the contents. It may need humidification. The fact that they knowingly shipped you a dented tin is an oversight of the fulfillment department. If you call, they will give you a partial store credit for it having been dented; they did for me once.

I'd keep it, open it, and smoke it. More trouble than it's worth to me to call and send it back. The one time I sent something back was when a couple of tins I ordered were substituted with something that I had not ordered, and wasn't interested in.
I've received dented tins from several sites. Nobody's perfect.

sablebrush52 haebar those rather summed up the whole experience. I did end up jarring it as I won't smoke it fast enough. Most everything I post is tongue in cheek, so it's really not all out drama. It was only 10 Bucks (I spent 200 this week) and my feelings were: 1) If it was P&C (and I am not saying it was), I have made out like a bandit on their sales by stacking codewords 2) If it was SP, the one time they sent the wrong sized tin I wrote and they sent the right ones, telling me to keep the wrong ones, which were worth 30$. I couldn't hardly complain to them, either. An aside, I know Amazon gets a lot of deserved grief, but their custserve takes good care of me. If they make a mistake I remember the time they gave me a promotional credit and I still got the item. Often, when I feel the balance is out, I call them and let them bill me again.

I realised I hadn't voted. I would contact them as a matter of courtesy but keep it and smoke it regardless... Unless the tobacco has gone off.
