Home of the Dented Can was a slogan for a discount food store here used back before the Days of Yore. Two pics below. Tin is dented on both sides, pretty badly, though I guess the seal is still intact. Reason I post this as I have read members act like this is unacceptable. I have received many a dented tin, though never so bad it affected the ability to unscrew it. As soon as I open it up I know I'll have to jar it as it will never close tightly if at all again. If the seal is broken, which I don't know, I should open it right away rather than let it sit exposed. I should add that this was in bubble in the middle of the box. It was shipped this way, as nothing around it was surrounded by bulk. Also, My choice (though I won't vote) is to keep it and not say anything. I just want comments on if this is acceptable to you all. Personally, as long as the seal was intact I would keep it. I would, as you have noted in other replies to this thread, contact the vendor and let them know the condition it arrived in. ExChef

If the dent is significant at the seal, and is one that I planned to tin-cellar, back it goes. All other minor dings and dents below the waistline are to be considered battle scars worn with pride ;-)

put it in a plastic ziplock bag for a week. If it smells like tobacco when you open then the seals gone

I would send a note to the folks you bought it from,Could be they will send you another tin and you will have both.At least they should give you a credit for what you paid for it. Bingo! when I pay what they are asking I want undamaged goods. The tobacco was fine inside the damaged tin but thats not the point. I wouldn't buy a car that had to be shipped from Austin to Bentonville only to find a small on the back of the seat, it may drive well but it's not what I ordered.

If I had a minor dent in the tin/can and the seal was not compromised in any way I’d keep it without calling customer service and complain. I’m smoking the blend, not saving tins. On the other hand, I would definitely call if the seal was obviously compromised, which I have received prior a few times. So, I can’t really vote because my option is not listed.
However, in the past 2 years I’ve made numerous calls to customer service about serious mold problems with certain blends coming out of the same canning plant. Most were issues properly rectified. Last month I opened another Bijou in which I was told “ the problem was rectified, we are using another anti fungal agent “, obviously not! I was sooooooooo ticked off I just threw the entire tin in the garbage.

A dented tin obviously results from it hitting a surface. This can cause the seal to break. Even if the seal appears in place, if the dent is severe or in a bad place (like along the seal), I ask for a new one. Why? I have enough concern that the seal likely lost some of its cohesion which could quicken the seals failure in the future.
