Yul brynner smoking. Anyone watching this show? Season 2 just started. I find myself dozing off periodically. More cerebral than action oriented show. Also, How can you have an old west depiction with no pipe smoking?

Really liked the original. I can only judge the new one by the first episode. The typical HBO gratuitous sex and violence fest, and a missed opportunity.
And yes, funny that they can show all manner of rape, dismemberment, beheading etc.... but not pipe smoking!

I’m only 4 episodes in, but it seems to me that the depiction of sex and violence is more a commentary on the primitive desires and drives of humans. The show seems to be exploring concepts of self-awareness, consciousness and humanity.

Yeah, I got those themes - but I saw it more as an excuse to bludgeon viewers over the head with the graphic scenes. But I know I'm in the minority. I found Game of Thrones totally unwatchable. One I did enjoy that also explored "concepts of self-awareness, consciousness and humanity" was the British series, Humans.

Anthony Hopkins proved a magnanimus casting call. Has a true comic book frame-to-frame mode of operandi... love it!

Maybe I should give it another chance. It seems to be a truism that pilot episodes aren't always indicative of the series overall.

You are not alone! If a show can't hold my interest through creative writing and good acting I just don't watch it ... happens too often anymore.

I've been catching a few episodes here and there, but watching them in order. It hasn't been a bad series.
Game of Thrones, on the other hand. I just couldn't watch. People all around me talk about it and make references to it but it's just not for me. Y'all are not alone

And yes, funny that they can show all manner of rape, dismemberment, beheading etc.... but not pipe smoking! Because we live in an upside down world where morality is not only arbitrary, relative, and capricious, but enforced by whoever whines the loudest. Live and let live is a concept from the near-past. The anti-tobacco forces are as bad, or worse than, the temperance groups of the late 1800's and early 1900's. And that worked out just grand. As for the show - meh. Watched season 1 on Netflix, will see if I bother with season 2 when it becomes available.
