I just set fire to a bowl of Wessex Burley Slice in a Missouri Meerschaum Legend cob. I’m drinking a Diet Coke on the rocks and reading The Daily News.

Starting off my smoking day with the last of this sample of year 1938 F.J. Smith Glasgow Smoking Mixture in a 1980s straight smooth Big Ben pot with a nickel band and a black vulcanite stem. I sure wish they were still making this blend. Age did not diminish its flavor. A can of the very delicious Hansen's Mandarin Lime Soda made with pure cane sugar is my drink. Mad Dog Russo is on MLB TV at the top of the hour.

Good evening, you all. A mid-evening smoke; 'Presbyterian' in a Comoy's 804 - 'Magnum'. A great tobacco demands a large pipe.

I reviewed it last year at TR.com. My after lunch smoke is Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem. Watching the Twins-Cards game before I run a few errands. Good review Jim. I think I would’ve enjoyed it. It’s amazing how well some tobaccos hold up and others don’t. I agree. I was with my friend Jon Guss when he opened that cutter top. The tobacco inside was fresh and moist as if it was brand new. I've noticed that cutter tops with seals intact hold the tobacco fresh for many, many years. Last year, a friend opened a early '60s Balkan Sobranie cutter top 8 ounce tin. The inside tobacco and tin were perfect, and he gave me half the contents. I've seen it other times, too. Too bad cutter tops went out of style. Now smoking MacBaren Modern Virginia Flake in a post WW2 Pre-Republic Peterson Dublin straight smooth X155 Bulldog with a sterling silver band and a black vulcanite p-lip stem. Ice water and bergs is my evening drink. Watching the Reds-Giants game.
