I play mandolin, both in a classical mandolin orchestra, and in several folkie and bluegrassy jam sessions.
And yes I do regularly smoke while I practice.
Anyone else play a musical instrument?

I used to play guitar for a church, but the hands got too beat up at work to continue.
My twin plays bluegrass. Banjo collector and player, Mandolin, Guitar, and Hammer Dulcimer. The wife plays guitar and keyboards

Started on drums and percussion, then switched to guitar. Was playing my Les Paul 3-6 hours a day, every day, until thieves came in my house and stole it. It kind of broke me from playing. I seriously hope they die slow and horrible deaths. Here's exactly what it looked like; billed as a Limited Edition to me (got it new in 83 for $1,000), but it might be a Special. Love me the single coils, the dots and not bars, but the most rare thing is the chrome tuning pegs - hard to find that. Gibson catalog called the finish Antique Mahogany at the time.

sorry to hear about that, simnettpratt. There's too much of this going on! I always preferred the Gibson over the Fender. When my dad died last year, I took his Fender. Haven't played it much though....I wish I had more time.

In my day, there were only two guitar choices, period. I'm a through and through Gibson guy. And there's only one amp and you know what it is. Only took the guitar that time. Second and third time they took everything. Everything, as in all the furniture, fridge, washer/drier, just everything. Third time they left me twelve empty bottles of beer to pick up. I seriously hope they die long and slow and horrifying deaths.

Yikes - how long was the gap in between 'visits'? That is really really awful. Sorry to hear that, simnettpratt.

I play a little blues harp, but don't consider myself a musician by any means. My two oldest children, on the other hand, seem to have the talent that I wish I had. My 21 year old son can play just about anything with strings, and quite well, I might add, and my 20 year old daughter was an All State Sax and Bassoon player and plays some guitar, various ukes, and writes and sings. (Shameless Dad plug) Check her out at carolinedoesmusic on Youtube, if you get a chance. (End shamelss dad plug )

I picked up a few guitars along the way. Do you think? I have close to that in mandolins. There is no cure.

I just recently played an orchestra concert. Months of preparation and performance anxiety, you know the drill. After the performance i went outside and smoked some Billy Budd Blonde and it was the best smoking experience i have had in a while.
Post performance smoking is the best.

Former semi-pro club drummer. Ludwig and Zildjian. Many good times, too much travel for minimal pay, but no regrets.

Music is definitely a great way to slowly lose money.
You can make a million dollars playing music, but you have to start with two million.

Played in bands since before I had a drivers' license (guitar and bass). Eventually sold all my electric stuff and bought a Gibson acoustic guitar in the early '70s. My brother is a mandolin player and is quite good--and has a collection of Gibson mandolins. At family gatherings we do our Tony Rice/Ricky Skaggs routine. We have found that the more we drink, the better we get.

I play bass and rhythm guitar. Also did vocals & bass guitar for a southern rock/blues cover band. Lots of fun playing covers, little $$$.

I am strictly pay to play. If I had started playing ten years before i was born, I would have a shot at making a meager living at music.

I was a drumming phenom by the time I was 13. I could play anything from the Who, Cream, Motown, Rolling Stones, the Doors, Led Zepplin, name it I could play it except for Yes, I would have needed sheet music for their songs.
In high school I was in the Jazz band, concert band, orchestra and marching band. I was the number 1 drummer as a freshman. After my second year my parents sent me to a boarding school with no music program. I started a band but the other members pretty much sucked and it died. It is the biggest regret of my life that I was not allowed to go to a college like the Berkeley school of music. I was told I was going to be a lawyer like my father and that was it, no choice.
After 2 years of college I dropped out much to the dismay of my father, but I got into sales, made good money and then started my own businesses, my old man was proud at what I had accomplished and admitted he made a mistake trying to force me to be a lawyer.

I play lead & rhythm guitar, bass and drums...since 1976. I've got a '65 Vox electric, a y2k Larrivee D-03, and various other 6 and 12 stringed models. I lead our band at church as well, where my wife and son are part of the team. Just for fun...here's a public video of me from a few days ago, just trying out a new Boss pedal for chord swells. I posted this so that my brother in MI could hear it. Nothing fancy, but just to personalize this a bit with a few notes. Any other vid links from others?

Wonderful, Jeff. Very pleasing and relaxing to listen to this. I did a solo performance at a recital when I was 17 of Classical Gas on a 12 string Yamaha. Still have that guitar and I remember how difficult the middle piece was when it transitioned to E flat. I guess most of us are fearless at 17.
