I recently received two new Butz Choquin pipes which I ordered from the internet. Each was around $100. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the quality and workmanship. Both are well-made. Correctly drilled at the bottom with good fit and finish. They are so beautiful, I was almost afraid to smoke them at first. Lol. Before loading up some Amphora Rich Aroma (green), I inserted the included 9mm plastic filter adapter into the black and white pipe. It fit well. After loading the tobacco, I lit it up and it smoked beautifully. I was surprised at how well it smoked. That filter adapter really kept the smoke cool. Very impressed. The bowls were larger and deeper than I expected, but that's okay due to their light weight . Despite their size, the two pipes aren't too heavy to clench. Overall I have to say that for the price, these Butz Choquin pipes are very impressive and well worth the price I paid. I think I like the color of the black and white one best, but both pipes are great. I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in picking up a new quality pipe at a decent price. Sherlock Holmes, anyone?

Very nice, I like them both. If I absolutely had to chose 1 or the other, I'd go with the black and white.

Sherlock Holmes, anyone? I have 2 of the BC Calabash pipes. I smoke the restored one with the GBD stem, and I am very happy with it. The other one is new, and I see no need to get it dirty. This may change at any time. They are great pipes, even at the full price.

Butz Choquin makes some lovely calabash shapes. I have one, my only churchwarden. Yours are two wonderful pipes, one for morning and one for night. Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I love old things, and these pipes have the look and feel of something from the Victorian Era. Up until now, my most expensive pipe was a nice 40+ year-old Claude Morel bent estate I purchased for $50 at a local flea market. Most of my 20 pipes are newer and in the $25-$35 range. Some are decent smokers, and some are not. I told myself that from now I would only focus on stockpiling tobacco, but when I saw these two pipes at a decent price, I couldn't resist. The difference in quality is obvious compared to most of my cheaper pipes. I still like smoking my cheaper ones, but I'm really hooked on the looks and smoking characteristics of these excellent BC pipes.

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone.
The two new pipes are slowly breaking in and are smoking wonderfully. What a huge difference it makes when the draft holes are drilled perfectly at the very bottom of the bowls.
The only drawback I can think of is that the black and white pipe is going to be a bit more difficult to keep clean due to the white rim becoming blackened so easily, but still worth it I think.

These are some beautiful pipes. I don't own any calabashs myself, how do they smoke?

These are some beautiful pipes. I don't own any calabashs myself, how do they smoke? Thank you. These pipes smoke great. The large chambers are fairly narrow and deep. The thickness of the bowls is actually somewhat thin, but that keeps the weight down. The only drawback to slightly thinner bowls is that they can sometimes get hot to the touch. The draft holes on both pipes are drilled perfectly straight and down to the very bottom of the bowl, allowing all of the tobacco to burn with no gurgling. These having quite large chambers, I can easily get 1+ hours of smoking out of one bowl. The included 9mm pipe filter adapters also work great. I despise pipe filters, so these come in handy. Overall, I am very impressed with the workmanship and smoking characteristics of these pipes. Good quality for the price, and I would certainly buy more BC pipes in the future.

Walt...the OP is now a ghost...his account has been deleted for some reason!!
I enjoy smoking a good Calabash pipe with removable bowl....not the Calabash pipe shaped pipes only.
