This Strawberry Pipe and Tamper was made for me by the late E James, no amount of money will get this from me.

Ed was the best in all ways of life. Missed terribly. By the ones who were lucky enough to know him. Thanks for allowing the patchers to see a true piece of art.

Paddy, Brad would never part with this particular pipe for sentimental reasons, not for it’s beauty. Ed was a plethora of information when it came to pipe repair/ carving etc. He shared his knowledge with everyone interested. He made some stunning tampers and gifted to many members of the pipe forum he was part of, I miss him, think of him often still. He had a “ heart of gold “. He was murdered by a family member, May he ROT IN HELL. REST IN PEACE Mr. Ed James, your missed by many.

Just made this out of the antler of the buck I shot in December and the 30-06 shell I used.

Glad you like them Scrooge...nothing compared to the gift you sent me...that LHS is simply a beautiful piece of work...they really had some nice lines in those pipes. I've made about 12 more since I last posted, when they are finished with the pipe nail inserted I'll post some pictures for those who are interested.

I have questions about these items. What is the value of materials? What is the production time of each item? What was the inspiration for each item? Will these items be available at craft shows?

Value of materials: Branches I found on my property, skin the bark off and see what the wood looks like underneath..worm eaten in some places and that gives the texture to the wood. I then cut a silver pipe nail in half (cost: $2.00) Production time: However long it takes to work the bark off and sand paper to get a smooth finish and then glaze...time about 2 hours Inspiration: Look for the Lord's work Not available at craft shows, If interested pm me and we'll work out something

Different lengths on those tampers...some are 8-9", some are 6-7", shorter ones are 4-5".

Made some new tampers...some use cut pipe nails in the first pic, the second pic use an angle end and a small nail head for the tamper end.

Nothing fancy for me. Pipe nail, 2 Czech tools and a nice hard piece of twig I whittled into a small unfinished tamper/scoop. Sort of a cheap knock off of Walt’s creations! Lol, but it works!
Side note: I took about a foot long piece of round shoestring type material and tied a bowline through the loop of my Czech tool, giving it a nice little lanyard. Helps me keep better track of it and makes it easy to get it out of my pocket without sorting through keys and change and what not. Not sure if this is a thing but it’s worked nicely for me!

Joe, it ALL works...just gives an old man something to do...ain't nothing special...everybody that makes tampers has their own special way...and they all work just the same. Took more work for booknpipe to do what he did...that was some work!!

I may have already posted in this thread... no fancy tampers for me... I thought about buying a jeweled tamper at one time from a jeweler at PM...figured it would end up in someone else’s pocket.
An estate Solingen is as risky as I will go.

An estate Solingen is as risky as I will go. I had thought the same thing...except I was going to mount a star sapphire in a perfect spot on one of the tampers...then thought what for? Probably wind up loosing it or leaving it somewhere....decided to just leave it alone, be happy with what I've got and who would look at it...I don't usually go anywhere.
