Hail, pipe smokers,
I have found myself washed up on the shores of Los Angeles.
I did a cursory search of this forum, didn't see anything obvious.
So, does anyone know of a decent pipe shop in the Los Angeles area?
I ask because I am thinking of buying a pipe or two, and would like to support a local business and also be able to see the pipes in person first.
Googling gives me an endless stream of vape shops, head shops, and cigar shops. What I would like is a pipe shop.
Do they exist?
I'm willing to travel a decent distance for a good shop.

PM forum member Sablebrush, if there are any he would know.
Financial considerations closed the original Tinderbox and Kramer’s.
Increased taxation hasn’t helped.

There is a Tinderbox at South Coast Plaza.
I know several places to buy cigars that also carry tobacco and pipes, but I wouldn't classify any of them as a pipe shop.

I'm afraid I can't help you with that, but I can welcome you to the forum.
I hope you find a shop.

Welcome to The Briar Patch fulgentius, and hope you enjoy your stay with us I guess it would be helpful for us to know exactly what part of the shores of Los Angeles you washed-up on as the City of Los Angeles encompasses a very large sq. mileage of area. Are you visiting or now permanently attached to SoCal? As mentioned above, there was a Tinderbox in the Santa Monica area, and there was Kramer's over in the Beverly Hills area. Both were wonderful B&M'. They are now both closed. I used to live in the Santa Clarita area for 17 yrs (moved in Oct 2017), and just across the 5 fwy in Stevenson Ranch is the Smoke Zone. They have a well packed humidor of cigars, a decent selection of tinned pipe tobacco's, a small display cabinet of pipes, and a pull-out drawer with about 12 or so large glass containers of aromatics and such. The proprietors are two brothers named Zach and Leon. They open at 10AM. Starbucks is a 100' walk nearby.

Thanks for the information and the welcomes, everyone. I suppose there really aren't many tobacconists anywhere that have a good selection of pipes and pipe tobaccos. It seems most focus on cigars. Not that I don't enjoy a good cigar, mind, but I am not going to get in the habit of smoking those in my apartment. I am in Brentwood, and will be here for the foreseeable future. I also go back to the SF bay area regularly, so I suppose if anyone knows of a good shop up there that would be great too. I have been looking around on smoking pipes and am veeery close to buying a Nording freehand. They are lovely looking pipes and not as expensive as I would have thought.

So, looks like your just a smidge West of the 405 and a tad North of Wilshire Blvd and/or San Vicente Blvd. About 4 yrs back, I did stop in at a B&M just South of your location named "Tobacco Trader." There was seating areas, directly straight back from the front door was a decent selection of tinned tobacco's, to the left was many briar pipes and accessories. To the right was a wall of cigars front to back. Here's their web page, and give them a buzz before heading down to their location. Maybe about 5 to 7 miles from your potential location in WLA: www.tobaccotraderla.com/directions/

In the SF Bay Area, there is Telford's in Mill Valley (http://www.telfordspipeandcigar.com/) and in Oakland, The Piedmont Tobacconist (http://thepiedmonttobacconist.com/).

For the Bay Area, I ditto trailboss' mention of The Mission Pipe Shop. When I’ve been in Sillycon Valleyand need a pipe Shop fix, I head to the location on The Alameda in San Jose. Sorry, I’m of no LA area help,

FWIW, when Marty Pulvers ventures out to a tobacco shop, Edwards in Los Altos is near his home. On a chance visit, the proprietor handed me a Pipes and Tobacco’s magazine addressed to Marty.
If you are not familiar with Marty, Google “Pulvers Briars”, he ran a great store for years in SF named Sherlock’s Haven, sadly... long gone... but he lives in as a pipe trader.

Yes, there was another tobacconist now I think about it, in that area. I think I bought a pipe there, actually. Not sure which pipe. I think the one in the Embarcadero was Tinder Box, maybe. San Francisco was a pretty cool place back then.

Better times. www.embarcaderoshop.com/pages/sherlocksHaven.htmlBack in the day when Sherlock’s haven was open, I delivered to a small cafe around the corner from the Moscone center... delivered through the front doors. I had to meander through the tables, noticed some goons standing around. Accidentally bumped a table (rickety table) and sent things flying... goons sprung into action. I bumped “Tip” O’Neil’s table... tipped his table. ( This was during the DNC convention).

I was in Telford's last week. Cool spot. Believe it or not, I picked up a tin of McC's Navy Cavendish and smoked a bowl out front. There is also a good place in Los Altos named Edward's Pipe and Tobacco shop.

Yo fulg Ditto DT on the Bat Area pipe shops. The shop that springs to mind for the LA area, though it's in Orange County (Lake Forest) is The Tobacco Barn www.tobacco-barn.com/ . It is seriously pipe-centric. hp les

I went in there last year asking about pipe stuff and got nothing but attitude from a couple hollier-than-thou X'ers puffing on churchills.

Well, I have a Nording orange grain freehand wending its way to me now. I couldn't resist. Very reasonable price, too, I think.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will check out the Tobacco Barn and the two in the bay area.
While we're on the topic, I should put in my own plug for The Piedmont Tobacconist in Oakland. I assumed they were gone but it seems they are still around. This is the shop I bought my first pipes from. At least back then they had a nice selection, and it was a nice place to sit for a while. If you find yourself in the area, you should give them a try. I will next time I am up there.

I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised.🙄 The last time I was in Edward’s, it wasn’t prohibited.

That's why I'm moving to WA in the near future. It seems silly that there is not an accommodation for smoking in a tobacco shop, I guess they figure it is their duty to accommodate a non smoker that chooses to work in a tobacco shop that doesn’t want to be around smoke.... That is as ridiculous as issuing a liquor license to a bar, but prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in the building. This is what happens when a lie like second hand smoke danger is not challenged. “A lie goes around the world, while the truth is putting it’s boots on”.
