Chernobyl on HBO is some of the best drama I have ever seen. Oh my God, the sacrifices made by so many people to stop an even worse disaster! It is heart wrenching and horrifying. Truly frightenng. Far more so than any slasher movie or undead crab walking children type of flick could ever possibly be. Because it happenned. Watch it, history buffs. I give it a 9.9 out of 10. I won't give anything a ten, because there is always room for improvement, however small. In this case, a full ten episodes would help tell the stories of more of the people better. Watched the first episode of it tonight. So far so good.

Jessica Jones Netflix 2/5The lead is a wooden actor and not very interesting beyond her struggle with having been raped. It's sad that she is defined by it, though that may also be the only real message worth taking away and considering.
The story is overly drawn out.. Interesting at times, but a whole 24'ish hour season really should have been distilled into a two hour film. I guess this is intentional, as Netflix is probably desperate for fodder to keep people subscribing and streaming. I can understand that. We as a culture have essentially forced this type of product. The real downer- The writing is just too political for me- So repetitive and narrow in its scope as to the point of being hilariously self-derisive. Any time a white male is on-screen, you know you're in for a scene involving a one-dimensional bigoted interaction. Lets be real here folks... Do all white men really rove the streets acting like Biff and his cronies from Back To the Future? haha Just out roaming the city looking for woman bully.. That's what I do most weekends...
I'll stop there before I get to ranting politically beyond the scope of this review.
I guess if anything of worth can be seen here, it is that it did make me examine the macho television I grew up with in the 80s and 90s. Women were always victims and often the hero was a white male. I guess maybe this is a chance for women to experience that kind of thoughtless indulgence that I enjoyed as a kid watching junk television.
If the politics were more sublimated and the writing takes a more interesting approach, I could give this a 3/5 But even then, it would still just be another tired superhero yarn. Maybe I'm officially an old man, but I'm over it. Must have been how people felt about westerns by the end of the 70s.

Made another bargain buy: Sea Hunt - 8 disc box @$10.00 - Dated, 50's fun. I always found Lloyd Bridges as likeable a person and performer as James Garner. His sons appear in a couple of episodes. I'll be diving into it, later tonight. "Sea Hunt"!!! Mike Nelson!! Loved that show as a kid. My favorite TV drama series from that era is still now and will forever be: Even as an adult, I still get a lump in my throat when I hear Buddy Morrow's theme music. Throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s I regarded the CHP as "the gentlemen of law enforcement" and they lived up to that image in my every encounter. I have a number of mildly amusing stories from those stops and "chats".

We watched Season 3 of Stranger Things ... disappointing would be a good descriptor.
They spend way too much time focused on the teen-crush romances and the action is very predictable.

I watched and enjoyed Chernobyl,I am watching City on a hill currently and waiting for season 3 of Snowfall.City on A hill is decent so far even though I'm not a fan of Kevin Bacon. Anyone besides me noticing the glut of shows taking places in the 80's-90's?

So, Netflix sent me Season 1, Episode 1 of "Game of Thrones". Now I can see what all the fuss has been about.

Don't tell me that. I'm about to start it tonight. Chernobyl is very good. What struck me is how so many people in Russia had such prefect English accents in the 80s. #whoknew

My own expectations were likely partially to blame.

Endeavor Season 6 concluded and pleased to see it hold to the high standards of previous installments. The young Morse and workmates jumped all the work politic hurdles and will be reunited as a working unit, A Team in the next season.

Sorry it was only a four episode season. I read that decision was made to maintain quality and allow the principals time for other projects. Sorry that Win has not forgiven Fred. Fred may have made a poor but understandable choice. I certainly look forward to next year's offerings.

Endeavor: I like the attention paid to detail and the random tributes paid. In the earlier episodes, that's Abigail Thaw playing the journalist. Morse gets his first Jaguar and home and that house he enters in the closing shot sure looks like John Thaw's old digs from the original series. Shaun Evans may have gotten a longer role than he initially realized. Repeating myself, but this show has legs.

Looks great remastered in DVD and the sound quality is top notch. The show also flows better sans commercials. www.Hamiltonbook.com

Generally speaking there's little of interest on free-to-air. Pay-for-view has ruined TV. Since TV stations have three digital channels, they fill the schedule with rubbish & then repeat the rubbish.
Too many reality shows [because they're cheap to make] Cooking contests. Renovation contests. Dating & relationship shows - One, Married at First Sight, is where a team of 'experts' choose couples who marry sight unseen. They're either hopelessly inept or they choose individuals of weak moral character intentionally & then act all surprised & outraged when infidelity raises it's ugly head.
Then there's the cop shows & ones like NCIS where one character [Denozo] spoils nearly every show with his out-of-character 'quirkiness'. [Same as how Will Smith spoils nearly every movie with his 'Aw shucks, guffaw' silliness]
So I was pleased when SBS started running X-Files from the very first episode every week night. When I first watched it years ago I didn't find Gillian Anderson [Scully] that attractive. Now I think she's a bit of a hottie.
She has a role in the Hannibal TV series. She's still quite the looker.
I'd give X-Files a solid 8/10 ..... bump it up to 9/10 because of Scully.

Over the weekend we binged Stranger Things season 3. We started on the 4th when it was released, but we were lost because it's been so long since we saw season 2. So we had to re-binge season 2 first. Excellent show, 10/10.

@phantomwolf ,you pretty much nailed it on JJones. It just wasn't good at all this season. I have seen her acting in other movies and I think she has talent. She's leans towards that kind of character, but I think the director pushed it too much. That being said, the superheros of that era were pretty screwed up after they made them terminally conflicyed. Who wants to look up to a semi hero who is too mentally screwed up to function? Everyone is supposed to be so unsure if themselves so they can be indecisive. What ever happened to good old Stoicism? I think I will read Marcus Aurelius again tonight. Whine! I'm a victim of society! I need a group of non-thinking people to surround me! They can't look like the people who raised me in this terrible world and made me so screwed up! Only people from different cultures can be trusted. Anyone with money is a Slaver. Whoops, too much TV.

On the other hand, we just finished bringing The Sinner season 2. Very complex plot and great acting. Nothing like a twisted murder mystery involving a cult. 8/10.

My bestest and favorite show, Fred is my hero! Fred meets my standards for policemen. He would have fit with my Great Uncle, NYPD, 1919-1959. I worked with a few of that era who he would have fit in with.

Murder One Season One: A Steven Bochco production, but it was no Hill Street Blues, NYPD, or even an L.A. Law for that matter. Ran circa 1995-1996. Cable(?) I didn't remember it. One trial followed for an entire season.
I like a continuing storyline and ensemble cast, but this never grabbed me, possibly because it projects lawyers as the greatest thing since sliced bread. I don't feel that way.

Mindhunter on Netflix is on Season 2, showing FBI starting to in the 70s to build a group of people to find out the mode, mind and whatever of serial killers, hampered by Old school methods. Very fine actors and very interesting.

'Combat!' was one of my favorite shows as a youth. I've been rewatching and am midway thru Season 2. It holds up pretty well. Robert Altman directed several episodes in the first season. It's also fun to see guest actors who achieved success later. James Caan had a nice role as a German sergeant in one.
