Jessica Jones Netflix 2/5The lead is a wooden actor and not very interesting beyond her struggle with having been raped. It's sad that she is defined by it, though that may also be the only real message worth taking away and considering.
The story is overly drawn out.. Interesting at times, but a whole 24'ish hour season really should have been distilled into a two hour film. I guess this is intentional, as Netflix is probably desperate for fodder to keep people subscribing and streaming. I can understand that. We as a culture have essentially forced this type of product. The real downer- The writing is just too political for me- So repetitive and narrow in its scope as to the point of being hilariously self-derisive. Any time a white male is on-screen, you know you're in for a scene involving a one-dimensional bigoted interaction. Lets be real here folks... Do all white men really rove the streets acting like Biff and his cronies from Back To the Future? haha Just out roaming the city looking for woman bully.. That's what I do most weekends...
I'll stop there before I get to ranting politically beyond the scope of this review.
I guess if anything of worth can be seen here, it is that it did make me examine the macho television I grew up with in the 80s and 90s. Women were always victims and often the hero was a white male. I guess maybe this is a chance for women to experience that kind of thoughtless indulgence that I enjoyed as a kid watching junk television.
If the politics were more sublimated and the writing takes a more interesting approach, I could give this a 3/5 But even then, it would still just be another tired superhero yarn. Maybe I'm officially an old man, but I'm over it. Must have been how people felt about westerns by the end of the 70s.
I somewhat enjoyed the first two seasons, but am having a tough slog with Season 3. The "big bad" this time around is lame, and her unrelenting negativity about everything wears thin.
Luke Cage was a much better show, but Netflix sadly decided not to continue that one.

'Combat!' was one of my favorite shows as a youth. I've been rewatching and am midway thru Season 2. It holds up pretty well. Robert Altman directed several episodes in the first season. It's also fun to see guest actors who achieved success later. James Caan had a nice role as a German sergeant in one. You ain't kidding about Lieutenant ltman and the show "Combat". The episode with Shecky Green and Keenan Wynn, "The Prisoner", 1962, one of the most cleverly written and Directed. A great series for those of us who sired and reared by the W2 Generation.

I hope they or Netflix dont run it into ground and keep making more just for profit. I can see another great season to be made and maybe, just maybe one more after that. I want it to end and be done with before it self inflicts a wound. Speaking of wound, get rid of that little sister character.

We watched Season 3 of Stranger Things ... disappointing would be a good descriptor. They spend way too much time focused on the teen-crush romances and the action is very predictable. I just watched the first 2 seasons last fall. Enjoyed it enough that the missus got me to watch season 3. I agree with Darin. I mentioned your comment on the teenage crush focus to her. Her feeling is they do that to grab more of the people who like romance stories more than scifi interested. Lack of a better way of saying chick flick!

It's not a bad place to stop, imo.

Funny, I was wondering if it was. It brings me back to my childhood as I was a child in the 80s (arguably still am). Maybe, if you were older then, there isn't the same nostalgia that I'm feeling.

I think that is a likely and fair assessment on your part, Andre. Screenwriters don't cater too much to Geezers.

I've been watching Russian Doll on Netflix. Not quite finished with the season, but it's pretty good so far. I imagine the concept will be stale by season two.

Forged in Fire. I watch it sometimes when I'm at my son-in-law's. It's about the only thing I watch, and it's only some times. But I like it. Some of those guys have some real skill.

I like that Forged in Fire quite a bit. I watch it as well. Really like the guys who smith their own blades and go on versus the ones the purchase them.

Watched on Amazon Streaming last night, The Politicans Wife, Infidelity, political intrigue, payback, fine Series. An excellent mini series, with a leading British actress in Juliet Stevenson and Trevor Eve as the politician/husband. Holds up to repeated viewings and well worth anyone's time.

I've been watching the Psych TV series (2006-2014) lately on Amazon. Pretty funny show about a hyper observant guy who passes himself off as a psychic private investigator. The local police hire him and his childhood best friend / partner to help with difficult cases. If you liked Monk, you'll probably like this too.

I am still working my way through the Untouchables. Have to space the episodes out, many are so similar. This may be a series that was better viewed on TV. Can't binge view it.
Elliot Ness as portrayed was a single minded hardcase. An interesting occurrence is that when he convinces someone to give State evidence, they invariably get killed and he expresses no regret, just goes on to the next bad guy on his list.

New series or original? Robert Stack was just right for the part of Elliot Ness.

Has anyone watched 'The Family' on Netflix? I'll steer clear of making any political or religious comments, but it gives one a lot to think about.

I walked in my son-in-laws's house last night, and they were watching some British reality show called "Flinch". My take away from it was "Have we really sank this low in order to find some cheap entertainment?" I have no desire to watch any more of it. I left early.
