Just finished watching "Peaky Blinders" on Netflix. It was very entertaining. Mike, that was a series I enjoyed to the finish. Those crazy Irish brothers. Rated 9/19. Did you watch OZ, The Wire or Deadwood yet? All very well written and excellent acting 👍👍👍 Are you referring to Oz the prison series? That started off really well. Many really good actors from that series went onto bigger & better things. It was quite realistic in many ways. So brutal at times that it was a fair warning to wannabe gangsters of what to expect when caught. Sadly the writers ruined it with ludicrous & unrealistic plots. The worst bit of casting that I can ever remember was the wimpy fellow who was in charge of Emerald City, the special unit inside the prison.

Over the last several years, I've become increasingly aware of how gratuitous sex & senseless violence on TV seeps into our subconscious. Our subconscious does not differentiate between what's real & fiction. (Video games first brought this to my attention. I found myself falling asleep with fight scenes replaying in my minds eye) While at my laptop a few years ago there was some cop show playing in the background. Not that I was paying any attention but the dialogue & violence got me to the point where I simply did not want to hear it. So now I'm rather aware of what I feed into my subconscious. Now I mainly watch sci-fi, documentaries & cartoons. Although I'm 59yo, my favourite TV show that I watch nightly is the kids cartoon Dragon Riders. The characters in the newer version are all grown now so it's much improved from the original series. I'm sure, if many were examined on that, the results would be frightening.

John, I watched a few of the old “ Highway Patrol “ b&w “ TV shows. Broderick Crawford in my opinion overacted just a tad. Same with “ Dragnet “ Jack Webb playing the role of Sgt. Joe Friday. I couldn’t get past three episodes on both TV series. I was not much of a TV watcher when I was younger, catching up now since all I have now is time. I recently gave “ Hill Street Blues “ a try and stopped viewing between the third and fourth episode. Must be me!!!
Last year I watched “ Homeside: Life on the Streets “, for me second best cop series I’ve watched so far made for TV. 8,5/10

When my boy was around 12yo, he turned up from his mothers with a Grand Theft Auto X-Box game. Kids loved it because it was one of the first 'free world' games where one can randomly roam rather than the game itself dictating where one goes. It's a rather nasty game where one gets money from bashing prostitutes, one can run over pedestrians & hijack cars for e.g. I was rather horrified at it's content & a bit shocked that my boys mother would allow it. Over the next two weeks I rehearsed my explanation why I wanted him to trade the game for something more appropriate. Rather than the expected resistance & argument, my boy quietly listened to my reasoning, how ones subconscious doesn't differentiate between reality & realistic vid games & movies. When I'd finished my explanation he let out a sigh & said 'Yeah I know what you mean Dad' & then told how just that week he was in the car with his mother, sitting at a red traffic light when a motorcycle pulled alongside. In his minds eye he got out of the car, bashed the rider over the head with a baseball bat, jumped on the bike & took off doing a wheelie. Movies & video games are a type of hypnosis in a sense. It's why people cry when Old Yella died & why some get frightened watching horror movies. After the Jaws movie was released, many people even refused to swim at the beach even though they KNEW that Jaws was just a robot.

Highway Patrol was one of the first TV shows I watched as a young kid and so I am forever hooked. There was a cop show briefly in the late 1960s I liked, "N.Y.P.D." produced by David Susskind. Jack Warden, Robert Hooks, Frank Converse. Filmed on location in the city from police files.

toshtego...........N.Y.P.D. was also an excellent cop show. I totally agree with you👌👍👍. I was not a big fan of Kojack as well. Guess I’m more into “ realistic “ cop shows. Another cop show I watched a few months ago.....” Brooklyn South “ , only lasted two seasons. Southland was another well written cop show, started on ABC I believe then a cable network bought the rights. Lasted a number of seasons.

My wife and I like watching Forged in Fire, and the new show The Butcher, which is a meat butchering competition. It's more interesting than I thought it would be. (nutria, python, iguana meat anyone?) A vegans horror show. 9/10
We also have been watching Killing Eve, a dark comedy of sorts. 9/10

That's exactly who he was. He was reading the lines, but he meant every word. Maybe you would like his music better.

Jack was also a TV show Producer responsible for many shows including "Adam-12", "O'Hara,US Treasury" and others. A friend in LA once told me what it was like to "pitch" a show idea to Jack. Sitting in his office with Jack behind his desk. Jack would remain silent, staring at the speaker, all through the presentation. When the pitch was over, Jack would remain still as stone and just as silent. Staring without blinking. The pitch man would get the hint- no deal, get up, thank Jack for his time and leave. I can just imagine that.

Just the facts, ma'am.....
I enjoyed Dragnet, but I was a kid then.
Recent series? Unforgotten. Netflix, or maybe Prime. 9/10.
I could not get into Killing Eve, in part because Sandra Oh bugs me.

I had a pal who was in a few "Dragnet 1967". For one episode, he was the goomba dealing LSD to kids. He really liked and respected Jack as a real pro and a mentor.

Post an opinion. Curious to know if it is worth the time. Well, I watched about 15 minutes of season one, episode one. I’ll try again later to make it through at least three episodes......not into all the “ flashing “ screen shots so far. Wonder if this goes on throughout the series??

This is why I enjoy "Endeavour" but cannot watch much of Cucumberpatch's Sherlock Holmes on Masterpiece Mystery..

Deadwood... the main feature is that every other word is profane, with a little plot woven in to keep it warm but not fuzzy

Deadwood... the main feature is that every other word is profane, with a little plot woven in to keep it warm but not fuzzy I enjoyed Deadwood when it was first released on HBO. Now available on Amazon Prime Video, I was debating on watching again. A bit above “ R “ rating, definitely wouldn’t watch with my older children even today. Guess I’m set in my old fashion ways!! After the series I decided to acid etch this Chinese made Enlan knife. I replaced the pivot screw and used ceramic washers. Opens lightning fast. Never carried, basically just for show. It’s a one of a kind, looks much better in hand. “ The Deadwood Knife “.

Good Omens on Amazon Prime. A long- awaited screen version of the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, two of the best writers of their respective generations.
One angel and one demon decide to team up to thwart the coming apocalypse, because they both like their lives on earth better than in their respective realms. They do this by kidnapping and then losing the antichrist. Hilarity ensues, as well as an excellent philosophical examination of the human need for belief and the duality of good and evil.
15 stars out of 5. It could not have been cast or executed any better, and a tv series gives us 6 hours of content instead of a normal movie length. Great!

I could not handle "Deadwood". All that dirty talk had me embarrassed and ashamed for them. Such low people. Sinners all. The likes of them are not welcome in my Living Room. Sniff! Nose elevated to 45 degrees.
