Hi I'm a relatively new-ish pipe smoker that started at it about a year ago as I have been a cigar smoker for a while. I'm originally from the land of tobacco...born and raised in Yorktown Virginia however now reside in Battle Creek Michigan. But i guess when you grow up in that area its in your blood. My father has been a pipe smoker his whole life so i just eventually followed suit. I'm interested in learning new things and proper techniques since pipe smoking is as i feel and art form of sorts.....looks way easier than it is. Also interested in tobacco types for pipes, I'm pretty versed in cigar tobaccos but this is a whole new world.

welcome from Charleston, WV! Ive been through Charleston quite a bit, had a lot of family in WV but sadly many have passed on. Most of them were in the Princeton area and Beckley. I made what I'm guessing was my last trip there the winter before last to bury my grandmother.

Welcome to the forum, read what you will, and try what works for you...Other than obvious no-no’s like using a cigar torch to light your Briar, many things are based on preference. Some people prefer to fold and stuff flakes in their bowl, others put them in a coffee grinder, and there are those in between.
Experimenting what works for you is half the fun.

Welcome to the patch. You'll find a ton of information here and you'll be guided along the way. As trailboss wrote, a lot of this is preference... It's very subjective, but we'll help you along the way to finding that sweetspot. There's also a lot of other stuff we chat about that isn't pipe related, but that's part of the fun. Welcome to the community.

I met my husband there, and he was a volunteer firefighter with Bradley-Prosperity.

Welcome neighbor from Bronson/Coldwater. If you can get to Grand Rapids and Indian River Tobacco Traders, Furniture City Pipe Society meets on the last monday of every month. Its a good time and there are folks from all walks and stages. "Meeting" starts at 7 but many get there early because parking is at a premium. Always nice to see fellow michiganders on the forum. Im sure John will be along shortly.

Welcome aboard. You’ll find a wealth of information and friendly chatter here. If you’re new to pipe smoking don’t pack your pipe too tightly. Puff slowly and enjoy. Try different tobaccos. If you have a brick and mortor store nearby spend time with the tobacconist. May your pipe rack be full and your tobacco storage always have room for more.

Welcome!
Interesting how cigars are often the gateway drug to a pipe addiction, which turns into pipe acquisition addiction, and that is a horrible (horribly expensive) thing.
Good luck to you with that. For myself, I've given into it and so am no help in either kicking it or guiding you as I'm back at it after years of resisting the draw and have a novice level of knowledge, having forgotten much of what I was once taught. But, figuring it out is a great deal of fun.
This forum has a wealth of knowledge and great people, so you've come to the right place if you have embraced the hobby/lifestyle/habit/comfort of it all.

We all started some place. So try stuff write down your impressions of blends. Dont be afraid to tell us what you think about blends. 18 years ago I tried my first experiment with the pipe. Went back to cigars. Now I am back smoking a pipe again. When I smoke a cigar now I find they have more flavor. Your pallet gets more able to pick up the subtle flavors when you exercise it.
Welcome to the patch.
