I really enjoy the chat feature. I got on there many evenings and just chew the rag with folks while smoking.
If I understand it, the chat feature is kind of a bold on feature to the BP site. I participate in several other forums, none of which have any chat room capability.
Where this place excels, IMO, is the social aspect of smoking pipe. Lots of places to get mere information. I was thinking it might be even more cutting edge cyber social if there was a Briar Patch Skype type of an app, where we really could sit around and talk, watching each other's blue reek.
I don't think there is anything like that around, and certainly not in the pipe community (is there?).
Of course I would have to comb my hair and put on a clean Batman T shirt before signing in...

Or of course get my life size cardboard cut out of Tom Cruise to put in front of the camera.

Something that I currently do falls short of this, but does add the "seeing you" element. 2 friends and I use a messenger app (from our phones) to record and then send phone video to the group. We show what we're smoking, talk about whatever is relevant...and the other 2 guys respond in kind, as they're able. It beats texting each other with vids...because this particular app allows a 3 minute video...it's then hosted by the app, so it shows up in full quality. Not suggesting it "instead", but just offers another means. It's not as good as real time...but because of our schedules, we can't always be on at the same time.

It sounds like a good idea in principle. I'm not sure of any site or application that supports video conferencing with that many participants.
Maybe Skype does.

If you own an Apple device FaceTime is the perfect app for just what your looking for....one on one. Absolutely no lag in streaming. I use it often and stay in touch with 3 friends from NY. No better way to SEE what’s new in someone’s life 👍👍👍

But, to tell you my experience, the number of folks in the chat room is never a whole lot anyway. I dunno, just thinking out loud.

What I like to see the most is how folks manage their relights. There are some Zippo aficionados who manipulate those lighters as if they were just extensions of there hands. So cool.
Or matches. Its fun to smoke with matches, and fun to see how others do matches.

And to be able to see exactly how someone packs and lights etc. and say, 'hang on a sec...what did you just do there?' is invaluable.

always pleasure to seeya here & at the chat. Unfortunatly for most part, near dead at usual start time...yeah, it's summer & folks out & about. Sorry missed ya couple times at chat when was away from desk...later.
"comb hair" in my case a miss-nomer. 1st "gift" I got from my g.friend (now long time wifie) was back in '77. Found it a novelty shop. Bald man's comb....two teeth at both ends! Still got it.
cheers, Ed Duncan

I really enjoy video pipe chatting with other collectors on Google Hangouts. I don't know how to set one up but they work great.

Be careful what you wish for. If the hair on the head was a little thinner and a little more red I'd be asking how you got a picture of me. Thirteen years prior I was 165 pounds.

That is actually Jiminks without his fried egg pasties. The only "tell" that it's not me is his using his right hand on his mouse. I am right-handed (only by training) but use my mouse left-handed. Since my twin is right-handed my parents assumed I was and I learned that way. But that guy is a ringer for me.
