When you don white gloves and start extolling the virtues of The White Goddess, you've gone deep into the Rabbit Hole.

These are colored nicely, no thanks to me. Austro Hungarian Meer. African Meer unsmoked from The Tanganyikan pipe company, the "townsman" Another Austro Hungarian...still has the original amber stem, quite a great smoker. And from the Elizabethean era, from Vienna.

Wearing white gloves is one of the enduring myths about smoking a meerschaum pipe. I just hold a meerschaum like any other pipe, but doesn't the pipe color inconsistently if you directly handle it? I haven't smoked mine long enough to know. I do know that there's little wax left where my hand touches the pipe.

Google Meerschaum myths and you'll find some links to other forums and youtube video debunking the myths. Also, in the February 2011 issue of The Pipe Collector, Fred Bass wrote an article about meerschaum myths.

peteguy and Legend LoverI love how your meers have colored. Whenever I purchase my next pipe, it will be a meerschaum.

This one was a heartbreaker to lose on an auction, it went relatively cheap.

I may have that issue of The Pipe Collector as well.
