I started smoking a pipe when my son was 7 years old.The whole time he was growing up I smoked mostly Black Cavendish. When he was about 20 I discovered Latakia..I haven't smoked much Black Cavendish since..He's a trucker. Today he called me and told me that he will be home this week end and since I've got a birthday coming up in a few days he's going to bring me some tobacco..Nothing new about that he brings me tobacco all the time..Then he shocked me..He asked what that tobacco was that I used to smoke.I told him. Then he asked me if he brought me some of that would I smoke it while he was here.He said it would bring back good memories of when he was growing up..If I can still lift a bowl when he gets here I'm going to fill the house full of smoke.

Very nice, Larry. Happy birthday in advance. I have fond memories of my late father's pipe smoking while I was growing up too. He smoked Sir Walter Raleigh, or in a pinch, Edgeworth Ready Rubbed.

Happy birthday Larry! Tell him that he used to love riding in your '57 Corvette before it was stolen. What was the blend you smoked back in the day? I realize you said that it was a black cab, was it a particular brand?

That’s a tribute every father could be proud of. I would give just about anything if I could go back in time and smell the aroma of my Dad smoking Half & Half. AJ

Happy birthday Larry. That’s a great gift. I get misty when I smell Old Spice on someone else. I use it, but it smells different on someone else. Its similar to smelling pipe tobacco from another person.

The Black Cavendish I smoked so much was Lane BCA..When my son called me he was in Georgia. That's where Lane tobacco is.I asked him to stop by in his big truck and pick me up a load.I'm not waiting for that to happen though..As far as the birthday goes I will be 76 on the 12th of this month.I seem to be in decent health for an old coot my age.I'm hanging in and holding on..I hope you can read in my posts that I have a great relationship with my son. He's 53 now and I still love him dearly. He's my major accomplishment in life.

I started with black cav also, Stokkebye nougat for me.....Aromatic blends are pretty irresistable when you dip your toes in the pool. Probably not a bad starting point to ease into the hobby...If blends like Royal Yacht was my first smoke, I don't know if there would have ever been a second smoke.

I started off with St. Bruno as my first and it sucked. Thankfully, I persisted with a sampler pack and found a nice aromatic to ease me in gently.

Happy Birthday, indeed. Though I had tried Lat early on and did like it, I was pretty much Black Cavendish for over a decade. I mistakenly thought it was burley burning my tongue. Since learned it's the last type that would. Now I love it all!

adding my b.day greets Larry. Glad can enjoy with your son. My only blood child is 48. Glen/family are non-smokers but not "Nazi-type". Fine with them if outside at at least 50feet away (no problems). Surprised that my grand-gals, 10 & 7 enjoy the whiff or so of heavy latakia. Yes, they do camp and like the "campfire" aroma.

I love hearing about great Father Son relationships. I’m pretty fond of mine also. Greydon is my oldest, and the best thing that ever happened to me. I learned how to be a dad with him. He has 5 younger siblings and they all adore and look up to him. When he and his wife come over the entire mood of the house changes. The two little ones just about tear up when they show up and bawl for an hour after they leave. He’s a good man already can’t wait to see what he accomplishes by the time he’s my age. Thank you for sharing that story. I just about watered my beard. Happy Birthday good Sir, but my congratulations go to the relationship you’ve cultivated with you boy.

I bout it at the local general store in my hometown population 143. They sold it in Gallon Ziplock bags, I remember it had a stick with an Indian chief silhouette. It was dry and brittle and probably 50 years old. I smoked it out of a 2$ corn cob pipe, like a proper hillbilly of distinction. I can still remember the way the fire blazed down my throat and lungs like runaway train.

Happy birthday. Sounds like you raised him well. My son just turned 50 and on my birthday made me a new pipe rack and together we enjoyed a long smoke. ( same tobacco tastes). Funny he remembered my tobacco pouch from when he was little. Looked for a replacement just like it, but couldn’t find one so he made me the revolving pipe rack. Amazing what our children remember. I gave him one of my treasured Edwards pipes. When I grow up I want to be just like my son.

Yes it's nice when they remember, Son had visited me and noticed I had pipes laying on table, wife mullygrubbing about that. One day FedEx knocks on door, and you see what he sent me.i believe it's a 2 Cousins or brothers make, I'm old and senile so I don't remember.
