Dave, you do amazing restorations, the pipe looks to be in mint condition and the way you finish the briar the grain certainly pops out. That will look great in your collection, is it a pipe you will smoke at times. Don’t over fill the bowl and that pipe will smoke great and still look in pristine condition 👌👍👍. Also, that briar is very old, before that pipe was made the briar was 50 plus years old, yours is an example of the quality briar LHS always used in the manufacturing of their pipes.

This was a fun refurb. @lonecoyote This particular pipe isn’t mine. I’m fixing it for a friend. But I have a couple dozen Sterncrest’s and you’re right, they are great smokers.

I was looking for an old post and ran across this…so as to encourage those that are hobby pipe restorers, with the right techniques and patience, you can be richly rewarded.
I miss Dave G’s presence… a good guy.

Doing the initial cleaning of the internals of a couple more now. I'll use Dave's photos for inspiration.

I got my LHS as new old stock. No refinishing needed.

I got my LHS as new old stock. No refinishing needed. I hear you, a simple clean of this one and it took off like a train.

My LHS looked nice, but turned out to be a turd. It was over reamed and I could never get it to smoke right. Here
I do miss Dave G's posts

Too bad about the pipe, Josh. I only have one, but it's a keeper.

Agree. Dave and I keep in loose contact via text. He hasn't done a pipe restoration in a long time, but still smokes his pipes. The attention he used to pay to pipe refurb is now directed at audiophile stuff.

I don't even remember the last resto I did. Sfter reading this post, and scrolling through some others, I found myself on Ebay looking for some that "need a little work."

Here’s an old Sterncrest silver band I fixed up for a friend in Canada. This one had some miles on it but still had some life left in it.
Fine looking briar. Nice job

joeman is equal with Dave g in my opinion. Not that it means anything from me but they both do exceptional, top end, work. I've restored enough pipes now that I have lost track of the number. The amount of time and patience to do work like these two put out is truly astounding.

My current setup is more on the introductory end of the spectrum and a bit old. One day I hope to branch upwards...
