Back in the '70s/'80s we had two malls in town and one had a Tinderbox in it. It's still there but sadly it has one case with some White Spot and GBD pipes and about 6/7 brands of tinned 'baccy. It's mainly a cigar /gift shop now. The mall is only about 5 miles from my house but it's not really worth hassling with. The last time I was there was about 5 years ago and haven't found a need to go back since!

My first pipe was from a Tinder Box in a regional mall. While the local B&M is all that the Tinder Box was (in my area), I still feel a loss as to the socially accepted pass time of the pipe, built up to the point where it could sustain the high rents of an indoor mall.
Malls are dying. Only the best of the best will survive the coming decade. Despite what some newspapers are reporting, it's not e-commerce. Online sales only account for 7% - 15% of retail sales, depending on where one gets their information. "Fortress" malls, those where people travel hours - be it by car or air - to visit will survive, think A+. It's not even about location or exclusivity as malls which are the only game in town are falling off the vine.
Small Apple stores are now "anchors" and traditional anchors - think department stores - are struggling and/or reinventing themselves in smaller footprints.
Why, exactly, to a pin point? I have my theories, but if I could prove all of them, I'd be busy counting my stacks of cash rather than posting on the BP.

I lied. Friends and I actually went inside the mall just for the food court after visiting nearby Guitar Center.
Monroeville mall by the way. The one where they filmed Dawn of The Dead!
