"Vapour House"
It appears there is a quality tobacco shop in Bangkok. I see pipes for sale on the street in Chatuchak, and a few odd ball pipes shoved in corners of vape shops, but whichever cat runs this place seems to be pretty dedicated, into piping. I hope he has a good quality selection of tobaccos at reasonable prices, too. Whatever pipe smoking culture Bangkok used to have, seems to be entirely gone now. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've run into another pipe smoker in Thailand.
I am going to miss my local cigar and pipe stores more than just about any other creature comfort in the states. Cigars can also get rather pricey in Thailand, for example. Whenever I connect in the EU, I always try to buy there. Habanos in the EU are easily 3/4ths - half the price they are in Japan or Thailand. You really pay an import premium.
Before I head oconus, I am going to have to pay Boswell's shop a visit, probably around Christmas time. I have a habit of buying myself a pipe for Christmas (not the Christmas edition pipes, but I do like the Christmas-themed tobaccos). While there besides picking up one of his pipes I am going to have to get some of the blends - looking at his Christmas time aromatics now.
So this thread got horrible off topic, didn't it? I am under the influence of GL Pease's Quiet Nights.

It would really be something if they have any McClellands left in stock when I get there. Not holding my breath on that one, though. I saw a few for sale on eBay from Thailand. It would not surprise me if he was the one. The pipe world is small in this country!

I'm glad there's a place for you to get your fix. Are you brining much of your cellar with you?

I'm glad there's a place for you to get your fix. Are you brining much of your cellar with you? I will be unjarring almost all of it (I am primarily a bulk smoker) and double bagging it. Tobacco can't "break", so my primary concern is the pipes. I suppose I will find a way to wrap around the inside of the pipe box and also use some kind of foam material around the boxes themselves. For me, going to the tobacconist is more about the experience itself. I can buy everything I need these days online, but I choose not to, for this reason. They're short visits, maybe 10-20 minutes long. However, I remember every time I am in a pipe shop down to the finest, most minute details. Probably the best part is walking in and being surrounded by beautiful pipes, and that smell of all of the blends married together, almost singing like birds in a tree. There's one fellow who works part time at one of my shops who literally looks like he just stepped out of 1928. I really feel like those are my 10-20 minutes in simpler, happier times. And then, of course, there is the opportunity to meet and talk to other customers, which is irreplaceable.

true. You don't get that experience online, and it's a tough one to beat, I would imagine. My local B&M is an extremely pokey place (literally fits maybe 5 people max) and customer service is lacking, so I'd rather stay away. I wish there were others nearby.

One day, and it’s inevitable that the sales of tobacco products online will be banned/illegal, those small B&M’s will be back with smoking lounges, the prices of tobacco’s will surely double! JMHO

LL, it’s been in legislation for a few years own, as rumors fly I don’t think it will be to much longer before a “ no sale of tobacco products online “ Bill is passed.

[ I’m not a pessimist, but online tobacco sales will eventually be legislatively banned. Whether it’s in 2018 or 2021, it’s inevitable. It would be nice to see a B&M resurgence to fill the void. I don’t see it happening with all the public pressure, FDA regulations, and individual state tobacco taxes. A startup would need a significant amount of capital for investment and reserves.

Do you think there'd be an increase in tobacoo-free smokables, or will those who haven't cellared be using their pipes to blow bubbles for the local children?

I'm really decently cellared, with about two years worth which is mostly bulk English blends in jars. I need need need to start cellaring up on my dunhill tin loot, though. I always do what I can for my local tobacconist though. They're like old Barber shops you went to as a kid or your favorite bookstore. It pains my heart to think of them closing for good.
