It brings me to the time after three neck operations. I was on morphine for several years. From 30mg/day to 215mg/day. I got to the point that I would check myself for pain. Even had kidney stones I couldn't feel. Had them since then and wonder how I lived through them. Anyway, the song is pretty relevant. I asked my MD how much more morphine I could handle. He said it could be increased to unknown amounts till I died... sooner than later. I quit the next day, cold turkey. Since then I haven't had the desire to check myself for pain. I live with it 24/7

I live with it 24/7 David, why do you live with the pain which in itself can shorten your life through the stress that your body endures. I've been on Morphine for over 8 years, 200mg per day, sometimes more. The relief is worth the consequences in my opinion...I could not walk if not for the morphine. So, for me, morphine is simply a way of life. I have given up driving and let my wife do it all...the reason is that should I be in a serious accident, and a blood draw is done...I would be DUI and guilty regardless of who was at fault. This opens a door to litigation that I am not prepared to deal with. At my age to lose everything because of driving, is not worth it. Just my opinion.

This opens a door to litigation that I am not prepared to deal with. At my age to lose everything because of driving, is not worth it. Just my opinion. I lost my edge on it. I was a writer in my spare time and it got to the point I didn't care about stuff as much. Sort of like loving the challenge of a math problem vs looking at it and mentally not even trying. I seldom drink for the same reason. I drank a half gallon of whiskey or gin a day, along with 2 to 4 six packs of beer. I got to the point I was never hungover. My memory was crap. I have better things to do with my mind. Pot would help. I tried it. However, if they ever legalize it medically, and my MD said I was first on his list, I don't want to spend the next ten years listening to Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band while staring at a screensaver. Like the song "Hurt", I am aware of myself and surroundings every waking moment
