Thanks for the heads-up, Gav. I like to keep my in-use tobaccos in these Fido bailtop jars. Target carries them as well. I'll have to compare prices.

Gav, appreciate the heads up! Those hold a better seal when used with clear wrap for a tight seal, very handy👍👍 I ordered these from Walmart and they arrived today, perfect for tobacco’s in my rotation. Made by Ball, they are the wide mouth. Only $5.23 for a package of 4 jars, worth every penny!! No spill or loss of tobacco when filling your pipe over this BIG MOUTH jar👍👍

The above named sites do not tell you what the seal is made of (silicon vs. rubber). Something you need to know.

Silicon is my preference...but to be honest I have some bail jars that are tight enough that their rubber gaskets seem plenty tight and sealing properly. But the silicon is definitely my preference.

I always thought that the seal on Mason jobs was silicone, but:
Having read that, I went on the Kerr Mason site, and there are a lot of people that claim to have canned for decades, only to see a high failure rate on the Kerr Mason seals and collapsing lids.
I have yet to hear of any problem with people having tobacco cellar failures.

I was thinking something similar. I would assume there's not the same amount of pressure on the seals from tobacco.

I've used the bail lid jars for several years now and have not had any problem with them for my "using" bulk tobacco. I use the Le Parfait jars which I get at the Container store. www.containerstore.com/s/le-parfait-french-hermetic-glass-terrines/d?productId=10005560&q=le%20parfait. Since I only have three bulks that I use I've only got 3-750ml jars which hold a little over 8 oz. which is a suficient amt for a "using" 'baccy. I replace the rubber seal once a year and have had no problem with tobacco going stale or dry this way. For long term ( multi-year) storage I use the Ball Mason jars. Has worked for me for well over a decade or two so far !

Agree! never speak to the feds And never do something to cause the feds to be looking at you. Reason I gave up on the tobacco cellar on-line. Why give them the information they would like to have.

Sadly, you don’t have to be doing anything to cause the feds to look at you. There are a couple videos that have been out for a long time, posted by a law professor and a former police officer on why you don’t talk to the cops.

Thanks for the heads-up, Gav. I like to keep my in-use tobaccos in these Fido bailtop jars. Target carries them as well. I'll have to compare prices. I am also fond of the "Fido" series. A word to the wise: if you live near a "Container Store" location, they have bulk pricing on cartons of Fidos that are much lower than your average restaurant supply shop.

Agreed on the Wal-Mart shopping. The jars are so much cheaper anyway, there's no shipping charge, and you can ensure that your jars arrive at your house in one piece.
