How many of Y'all use the rubber tip on your bit to prevent chatter (see there I was paying attention). When I first discovered them I thought who would use those sissified turds and said to myself "self if you ever buy those I'll pull your man card and you can wear a skirt from then on" . Well today I surrendered my man card to the proper authorities and bought 2 of these said "turds" and just as I thought it was uncomfortable and looked kinda dorky. they seemed very large in my mouth (shut up) and I just wasn't a fan. I kept it on for a lil bit longer before ripping it off and throwing it at Stinky who was in the kitchen. I then thought it's basically a good idea and it just has some design flaws. Sooooo I went into the kitchen and went to pick it up off the floor (Stink kicked it out of my grasp for throwing it at her in the first place) and on second attempt I had said "turd" in my hands, I grabbed my pipe and put it on backwards so the little end was butted up to the button on the stem. Problem solved! although I'm still not sold on the "turd" just yet i'am willing too give it a second chance.

9 smokes out of 10... I'm a clencher and always moving about where I need both hands to tend chores. Besides all that it's much more comfortable and helps preserve my stems from monster alligator bite.

I’ve been using rubber tips for roughly 6 years, took some time for me to get use too! I have a sharp tooth on the bottom, I got tired of repairing holes in the lower portion of my vulcanite/ebonite stems. Now I find the rubber portion extremely comfortable 👍👍

I tried them but wasn't fussed. Might give them another go some day. I bought 20 for about £1.

It's a personal preference and that's all that matters. I don't use them myself.

I don't think I'd bother using them on cobs anyway. I've a few replacement stems for them.

I’ve used them on my briars and meers religiously for a number of years. Cobs, not so much. Replacement stems are cheap.

I like the feel of them, but found that they were accelerating oxidation where they contact the stem. I quit using them. If I need a pipe for clenching, I grab one of my cobs.

You have to remove them and clean the stem after every use or they will imprint and leave a permanent shadow.

I clench, but don't use them. I am a fan of the Dental bits though on my Falcon and a Duncan Pot.

You have to remove them and clean the stem after every use or they will imprint and leave a permanent shadow. Being somewhat lazy, that would never happen with me.

Nope. Never use them. They feel just strange in my mouth and I'm tempted to start chewing on them...

I use them on rare pipes and all of my grandfather’s pipes.
If you slice the fat edge off the softy bit, it makes it 1000x better.

I've tried to use them and they make me drool like a basset hound in the summer time.
I dont clench my better pipes. My workshop/yard work pipes are cobs,

Being short on teeth, pipes slip from my gob. The rubber seems to add a little friction keeping stem and pipe where it belongs.

I think my dentist stole my 3 wisdom teeth and 5 molars and gave them to his tooth fairy.... cause I haven't seen a nickel of that money.

I don't know when they were invented, but I had never heard of them till I got on here. Seems like a good idea in some cases. For comfort or preservation.
I like the feeling of the bit in my teeth. I like the authority of the pipe in the feel of it.
But it is individual preference. If you perceive and advantage and the advantage is worth it, go for it. By all means.

I, like most men, don't like elastic material to come between me and my enjoyment.

Use "Softies" ALL the time! For two reasons, don't like teeth marks on my stems and I don't like the feel of any type stem between my teeth.

I tried them a few years back. Didn’t like them and I don’t use them. Don’t believe I ever will.
