This may have been mentioned before...if it has, please forgive my ignorance. Had some dried out tobacco that needed gentle re-hydration. Took some broken clay (unglazed) pots (that I used for planting) wet them with distilled water, dried off the surface wetness and put them in the jar of dry tobacco. Within 24 hrs. the tobacco was perfect. Clay wasn't wet enough to produce mold...just wet enough to re-hydrate the tobacco.
Used to use the damp cloth method and found this far superior.
Hope this helps some brothers.

Glad your method worked well for you. The unglazed clay pot pieces work well. I use something similar.....natural terracotta stones shaped like a small tobacco leaf. Soak in distilled water for 5 minutes then place on the tobacco your rehydrating, cover tight with any clear wrap or a jar used for tobacco. That’s why I also keep small Mason or Ball jars nearby. I’ve yet to come across a tobacco that could not be properly rehydrated. If the tobacco is very dry this method may need to be repeated 2 or 3 times. Mix the tobacco when re-soaking the clay or terracotta.

I've never heard of that method. Must try it. When I get home I’ll send you a picture and look up where I purchased the small natural terracotta leaf....they are amazing! If you have a natural clay pot break it up in small pieces then wash them to remove and small fragments of dust...they work well👍👍

Hydration stones are worth their weight in gold.... I mistakenly threw a tin of Peterson’s perfect plug back into the cellar forgetting I opened it... a few weeks went by and it was Peterson's Petrified Plug.
Three distilled water hydration discs and it is again a perfect plug.

That's a great idea. I have been buying the leaf-shaped hydration stones and am pleased that you have thought of a cheaper solution.
