Today I received an order of tobacco and pipes. That’s another story which I’ve made another post on but this one is about the art. Namely, the artwork on the cans and tins. I guess I don’t really have much to complain about living here in America because I’ve seen what other people in other countries have to deal with, not only in the lack of art, but other restrictions as well. I just find it so very sad that in this day and age where we know damn well how bad tobacco is for one’s health, we have to deal with losing beautiful art because we adults have to be treated like children. I’m not smoking a pack, two packs or more a day of cigarettes. I pick up a pipe from time to time, load it up with something I love or something I’m trying and enjoying the moment I have with it. Quickly I have found there is rather beautiful art on these cans and tins and while I knew that change was coming, I find it really irritating when I can look at two cans side by side and see how much it destroys something beautiful. Maybe I’m weird but it’d be really nice if maybe these manufacturers would allow a download of the art or even offer some sort of print for sale without the obstructiveness of red tape regulations about health hazards. Just something to hang up for display in one's personal space. But I’m sure because it has associations with tobacco, there’s some sort of issue with that too.

I've been saving the tins of now OOB companies. Just for the art work, which in 20 years will be worth something, if only to me. McClellands in particular.

I used to remove the labels from the older C&D tins because the artwork was so much fun to look at. The cigar box are of yesteryear was also very good. The times they are a changing.

Yep, the huge warning labels really annoy me. Luckily most of the tins that I have have them on the back side.

I always saved the tins with the fancy Art work on the label. Now with the HUGE warnings those days are over. Years ago I too removed the McC labels, glued to a thin piece of hardwood board and frame them under glass.....looked fabulous in my den/lounge👍👍 Some of the 3-D stamped labels were stunning!!

I've taken screenshots of some tobacco labels from the vendor websites to tape to my storage jars, so that's an option while the decent art is still up.

I quit buying the Brigadier Black after they had the poor taste to name a blend Sherman's March. I do like the Alamo though, and I will save the label. I have saved a lot of tins with nice art to highlight my pipe cabinets.

Indeed it is ridiculous, but we are in the minority, be it in the broader sense of smokers, or in the sense of those that disdain smoking totally.
This is what happens when you trend towards pure democratic rule...the minorities personal freedoms get trampled by the majority...it is all good until your ox is gored.

Oh, I don't know. In the UK, the photos of women coughing up blood and dead people are quite nice to look at. I like to put them on the wall of my man-cave.
I have a whole wall of clogged arteries and eye-balls and a pale-faced women looking at me disappointedly.

Yeah, we spent about $300 on a reservoir-type inkjet printer awhile back and it costs us a fraction of a penny per page to print full color.
We've printed literally thousands of pages, and I still haven't had to refill the reservoirs yet.
The darn things are just amazing.
Needless to say, we don't suffer for nice labels or any other fancy printing at our house.

I bought a cheap printer for about £30 but I use instant ink so for £3 per month I get to print 100 pages plus 100 extra as left over. I can print full colour highest quality every time if I want. Only thing to be aware of is that if I have one word spilled over to another page it counts against my total. Do printing 1 word or an A4 colour photo is exactly the same.

As a photographer I can make and print my own labels pretty easily at a high quality. Which is why if the tobacco art had an option for a high resolution download from the company I would utilize it for some of them. My only thought now is for what I can get online or even scan, I might make a poster print collage of various pieces.

After seeing those lovely cellar labels I thought I'd plug a website that offers labels for over 100 blends for cellared tins. cellarlabels.com/labels/I don't run it. I've had conversation with the gentleman that does though. Nice guy

Doesn't really bother me as I toss the tins upon opening and jar the tobacco.

My tin of Ilstead's own came today. There was nothing to tell me what it was except for a sticker on the lid. The whole side of the tin was a warning sticker about smoking affecting my unborn child. I never even knew I was pregnant.

I liken this to the old album covers back in the day. A lot of those were pure art work in my opinion.
Then cassettes and CDs came out and the artwork got smaller and smaller.
Now I don't think that they even try.
Old tin artwork is the BEST!
