The US Senator and Navy Pilot has finally surrendered to overwhelming odds.
RIP, Sir. You are one of the best.

I did not agree with all of his politics. But there was not a more moral man and one who had the ideals instilled in him as a young man. RIP.

As an Arizonan, I thank him for his service to the nation during the Vietnam conflict, but as a politician, I have found him wanting...
He relied on political donors to carry him through election, after election and sold his soul to the highest bidder.
Maybe the warriors in Valhalla will view him differently, for his sake I hope so.

I agree...some who served with him do not paint such a rosy picture, but revisionism will probably reign. In the end, pandering to the media ended up with a knife in the back, he never figured it out though.

Other than the 32 propaganda videos for the enemy and the video by his ex cellmate Col Bud Day he appeared polished.

It's sad to hear of his passing.
Not being an American, I can't really appreciate, in any way, what he meant to each of you in the states.
Whilst it may be difficult not to voice our thoughts on the man in a thread about him, if we could keep the topic off his politics, I, for one, would appreciate it.

As Thumpers mother said "If you don't have anything good to say about someone, then don't say anything at all" Well, that's it for me!

It’s ironic that he passed on the very same day 9 years later that Teddy Kennedy passed from the same brain Cancer, R.I.P. banjo

Well said LL, discussions about his politics are for someplace else, not here. It is sad to hear of his passing and my prayers are with his family. I will leave it at that

I spent months trying to console my wife when her father died. Now her mother just died.My parents died years ago.I still miss them.I know the pain someones death causes to those who loved them. It's a part though of getting older that we have to accept.I feel for his family and those who cared for him. They will remember him as a Husband,Father, and Friend.

...skirting a bit too close to politics here, but in California, one may register as "NPP" (No Political Party), which is what I have always done... I liked John McCain because of his sincerity, though I am basically an old "Hippie" ( but I dislike the term.)

My comments weren't of a political nature, it was of personal character...The woman who waited for him as POW was cast aside when he met Cindy the beauty Queen/ Beer heiress when he figured that she was the ticket...and his father and grandfather as Admiral's helped him escape military accountability.
And it went south from there....

Guys, I don't care about your political affiliation, or what you thought of the mans politics, or what you thought of the man himself. He passed away. Either limit your comments to remembrance, or don't say anything. Pretty simple.

In the end, pandering to the media ended up with a knife in the back, he never figured it out though. The way the military looks at other prior military and vets and the way civilians look at vets will never be one and the same. I don't believe in tearing down someone else's military record though, whether if you served or not. I give civilians a pass for their clumsy comments more often than not. This is because the military is one of those things in life, kind of like being a firefighter or a policeman, that you think you might KNOW what it's about based on what you've seen on TV or from talking to people. But it's impossible to know anything about it or know what it's about unless you've actually done it. Thanks for your service, John. That's all I'll say.

Flags are back at half staff as they should be. We all have personal experiences that shape our lives, he served and was tortured, it’s the right thing. Nuff said.

Was not trying to be political. Kinda funny how all is forgiven when someone passes no matter how much ……………………………………………. they did. I think its great that his mother is still alive. Saw Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter on the morning news he looks great for his age of 93 and still doing habitat for humanity. I choose my heroes a little different marcusluttrell.com/ what is really sad is he had to Gov Rick Perry to get proper medical care from the VA. What is more amazing is his brother Morgan was also a Seal. There are true heroes to be found and you do not have to make them up.
