This arrived today from England. Lovely briar case and at a very good price. Works like a dream and I'm thrilled to have it.

I've had a smooth briar Old Boy for 15 years or more. Great lighter.

After having used this lighter for several months I can say that I am completely satisfied with its performance. One thing that I really like is that I only have to refill it every 2 weeks. I can appreciate why these have so many fans. It was well worth the price to me.

I bought a matte black one 6 or 7 years back. Aside from getting beat up a little from carrying it in my pocket, it is a rock solid lighter. I'm with you, John... well worth the money.

That briar looking treatment really makes that an attractive piece on top of an already cool looking and functioning lighter. Some of the antique shops around here have some pretty impressive lighter collections that I never spend much time looking at...from here on out I will have to look closer. Obviously when looking at them there probably shouldn't be much "slop" in the mechanics...and potential problem areas that a shopper should look for when looking at estate lighters? Edit: On reading the Q&A's, reading the last question, it appears that the newer ones have more refined upgrades. www.amazon.com/Corona-Plate-Sandblast-Lighter-IM/dp/B000VDFI94#customerReviews

Charlie, if you're looking at gas lighters bring a can with you to make sure the lighter holds a charge. You'll know immediately if there is a leak. Also check the spark wheel to make sure it moves freely without a flint and then add a flint for checking spark. Most lighters are pretty simple affairs. As long as the right parts click when they should and the ones that shouldn't don't click it probably worth a gamble. FWIW, lighters are the bane of B&M's. Returns and finding places for repairs are a pain in the butt.

I have a similar lighter as well as two of the smooth briar Old Boy lighters. I love all three and have not had one fail on me ever, despite my carelessness trying to cause otherwise. Congratulations on the excellent lighter, brother.

Thanks, Greg. I use it every day and never had an issue. I always bleed out the air before filling and that helps a lot.

I always had a somewhat disturbed relationship with lighters. They all stopped working properly latest after the first refill, no matter what price I paid. The only exception were a Dupont and the Old Boy. As everyone said - well worth the money!
