Iwan Reis is having a 10% store-wide sale. Only 4 tobacco brands not included. The percents go up the more you buy, on non-cigar items. They do have Free Ship over 130$, which would mean you're already in the bigger discount area, too. I believe this may be all month. What makes this special for those that are not normal IR Customers: Sutliff Private Stock CD (Country Doctor): He has some 8 ounce tins still, already with a few years on it. Iwan Reis 3 Star and Codger Blends: 3 Star Dutch and Ebony, International Blend, Ko-Ko, Affinity, and Dr. Bradley. Many of these have IR's secret sauce, some of which I think is a small amount of Licorice, but each tobacco is different. More importantly his blends are totally unique to him. He could boast more of his topping than he does Here is an extensive review that the world can now view (I am de-classifying it). Several posts on this page describing blends. thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/2914/daily-chronicle?q=iwan+reisMay the Smoke be with you. I can say no more

Nice of you to give us the heads-up, @cosmicbobo. I always thought you could do with more tobacco.

If I'm reading correctly, and I may not be as it's very early here, the sale is actually graduated. For over $100, you would receive a 15% discount.

I was waiting for daybreak to walk this morning and checked out their sale. It appears graduated based on purchase amount and lasts from today through September 14. I've done business with them in the past and enjoyed excellent service.
Tobacco pickings appear a little on the slim side but their IRC Virginia Flake is very good for the price, $6.90/1.5 oz before the discount. It's fairly light, more so than Orlik Golden Sliced or Dunhill Flake but a very solid introduction to straight Virginia flake for a beginner or just an enjoyable mindless smoke.
I'm not in the market for pipes anymore but I'd be all over their 160 Anniversary Savinelli 673 KS with the discount if such were the case. I'd probably still be tempted if it came in a 9mm version.

$250 in purchases to get a 20% discount? Doesn't apply to cigars? No free shipping until after $130? Dunhill, F&T and McConnell excluded? Is this REALLY a sale or some kind of pipe smoker IQ test? In the words of the great Cosmicbobo ... I can say no more.

I wasn't going to say it; however, even with their discount, tobaccopipes.com is far less expensive for Sam Gawith and has more in stock just as an example. But, I never said this.

Darin I would not be shopping there for common items. I gavest thee the keys to the kingdom in his 3Star blends and the formerly ubiquitous Sutliff CD. Maybe I should bring in some Irish Tenors ( Legend Lover included) to sing their praises. It's like Carey's shop. Go there to buy his items and the rest from SP. @10furlongs you are right about the sale. Those looking for a strong Burley, try the Ko-Ko, which has a tad of lat. Forget the tenors. Maybe I have to bring in the Knights Templar to redeemest mine honor Edit - I guess you guys have no idea how good his blends are. I "will" say no more

When I was still cellaring, Iwan Ries put stuff out there other's didn't or couldn't. It was a sweet place to go on the Internet. One could still purchase Esoterica and Germain from them at reasonable prices for quite some time after the Internet demanded higher prices. They stood by their regular Internet customer base as long as possible.
Things change. They'll have to stand with their local customer base to survive. It's their business model, always has been and what's old is new again.
I'd love to get up there, see their shop and would welcome the opportunity to conduct business with them at any chance.

I'd love to get up there, see their shop and would welcome the opportunity to conduct business with them at any chance. I make it to Chicago a few times a year for work or holiday. Iwan Reis is a fantastic establishment. The store is excellent and run by super knowledgeable people. The lounge is top notch. Technically it is a separate business and they are open different hours than the store. It is a $15 cutting fee to sit, but I never have had a bad time. The first time I was there I didn't realize it was BYOB and no less than 4 people offered me a drink. Great conversation every time I go in.

I'm a fan of Iwan Ries, and have purchased from them online before. I think it's a good sale, and I'm tempted to pick up the companion IRC pipe to the one I purchased earlier. It's a nice smoker, though it's not a filter. Some of the recent Labor Day sales from online companies make this sale seem less exciting, but, I think you can do nicely for a pipe and tobacco with a little strategy.

Back in the '80s I used to order from them by snail mail. Back when I could smoke Burley blends I used to order their Three Star Blue. Realy liked the stuff and service and shipping was equal to SP's today. They used to print a full color catalog that I would order from. Was in many ways a simpler time !

We need one of these everywhere. Haven't been in a B&M in 50 years sad to say. Miami had several, but they were mostly cigars. Tallahassee cigar store had three (3) tins starting at $45.00 for a 50 grm. tin.....uh...NO.

Funny, I had a dream last night, prompted by this thread. I dreamed that I stumbled upon a B&M in Belfast that had a load of aged tobaccos and a load of pipes, and the owner was a really lovely man who helped me choose some newly released tobacco.

Not a big fan of IR website. Really needs updating. The tiny drop-down menus drive my shaky hands nuts. Yes, sure should be improved. What I find interesting is that other than Three Star Blue you cannot get their tobaccos elsewhere, and Three Star Blue impresses me the least. September is a long month for me, so perhaps by the end I can pic up some more of the blends I like. Those are awesome. Darin pointed to reviews, I know in jest. One of them was so good as to say something to the effect of "This blend is one of the best aros I've smoked, but I don't like aros." Then gave it 1 star.

If not too much trouble, could you give your option on Three Star blends? I've tried about four or five of them. The ones I focus on are 3 Star Dutch and 3 Star Ebony. I'm dealing with sinus issues right now, so I can make a general comparison. IR uses a secret sauce that has licorice in it. However, the degree to which he uses it varies from noticeable to almost non-existent. Dutch is Burley. Ebony is Black Cavendish. Ebony, in my opinion, has a hybrid flavor of licorice and vanilla. Very pleasurable. The Dutch is hard to believe it's strictly burley, as the flavors come our savory, sweet, and complex. If you're looking for mild English Varieties, his International Blend and Dr. Bradley's are two different takes on American/English. Love them all. Ko-Ko is Burley with a tad lat. It's got a burnt toast flavor, but sometimes ya gotta have burnt toast

I'll be going to Chi-town in late November. Any particular Iwan Reis house blends that are must-haves? I like everything, so it doesn't matter if it's an aro, VaPer, Burley, English, or Balkan. Whatever's good is good.
