Too many blends to pay that much for one.

Do they think they resurrected the original blend? Germain's has the recipe, or at least one version of it. Gallaher screwed around with the House of Sobranie recipe. Germain's bought the rights to make it. They don't have the tobaccos. Having a recipe is only a starting point, not the whole story. Different crops, different manufacturing operation, different water, etc, etc. A recipe doesn't account for that.

...since sablebrush52 brought up Germain... I have lots of tins on the shelf, but I never seem to "crave" them, or think about popping one of the tins... it's usually "Solani" or I'm back at the "Balkan Supreme"...

I do crave both 1820 and Brown Flake; however, I only have four tins of each remaining in the cellar and little hope of finding anymore. What's a poor boy to do except savor when the urge overtakes and move out smartly.

However for the record, charging 33.00 a tin is so high as to be considered delusional. How delusional? To the point were one can ask the question(with great humor)"Do they (EACarey, their customers and possibly JF Germain (if the wholesale price is pushing a 33 dollar retail cost.)) think they (J.F. Germain) resurrected (an exact copy of) the original blend?" Of course the new offering is not the same as the old. Neither do I believe folks generally think so..

Unfortunately one of the knock-on effects of Germain/Esoterica/Sobranie mania has been price-gouging at the retail level. 4Noggins does it now (shifting stock straight into their "consignment" section), P&C does it, and some like King's break up the 8oz bags and sell them in 1oz portions for something like $12. The fact that a few still sell them at $10-12 shows that it's not Germain's fault but the retailers. Sure, they may be doing their part against ebay flipping.... but they're still price gouging and effectively being flippers themselves. I do think the hysteria might be leveling off because it seems production has increased. I believe there's been more availability this year than in the 4-5 years I've been smoking a pipe. Even Pelican has reared it's head at least 3 times, albeit in tiny quantities.

When McC was going out of biz, P&C mentioned they got a bunch in at regular price. What they failed to tell you it was MSRP regular price. Reason I am not saying it's a complaint because they could have done much worse, yet it was still made available.

Being familiar with such shenanigans going on with Germain products, all I can say is I had a lapse in judgement when I wrote that section. Silly me and thanks for posting the correction. Sad to say I know some folks will purchase it, due to the buying craze of Germain products. Yes EA Carey is simply taking advantage of supply and demand. However it leaves a bad impression and reinforces my general opinion that EA Carey is typically too expensive. One reason they are not on my preferred list of webpage's I check from time to time.
