Thinking of grabbing a pipe-roll, and I wondered for those of you who use them:
How do you like carrying one? Do you find it useful, or is it just one more gimmick? Where do you take it?
My roll of choice would be:
Pricey, but handmade and the quality reported by others is extremely high.
Thanks!

Yup, when I have many doctors appointments in one day. This pipe is my Yello-Bole Pug I purchased back in ‘68. Still an excellent smoking pipe. The leather pouch holds one pipe and 1.oz of tobacco easily. Purchased in the early ‘70’s. The first picture is of the original pipe, the second is after I refinished the pipe ( 2015 ) with black leather dye and high heat epoxy resin.

I have a Sorring Owl pipe roll that carries a disposable briar, a pouch of drexel viii, a tamper and emergency lighter everywhere. It goes in my laptop bag as there are times when I won't be home before an overnight work journey and a man has to have his priorities.

I use a Maxpedition Beefy purchased through Amazon. It's not really a pipe-roll but it does everything a pipe roll does...except better.
It's rugged, water-resistant, and has a ton of pockets/loops/straps for pipes and accessories. The best part is that it costs a small fraction of what a typical quality pipe roll will cost you.
I've had mine for years and would not hesitate in buying another should I ever lose this one.
Maxpedition also makes smaller and larger versions of this Beefy so finding the size that works for you should not be a problem.

I re-purposed an old camera bag ... plenty of space & pockets and comes with a carry strap if needed.

cwpiperman ^^^^^^^^ the pipe roll your considering purchasing is of high quality. My close friend owns one made by Craft & Lore, he’s told me numerous times how well his pipe roll is crafted of high quality materials and the craftsmanship is flawless.

I have two pouches, first is an inexpensive single pipe pouch that will hold about a half ounce of tobacco. The oher is a Stanwell two pipe pouch and can accommodate up to two ounces.I also have a nice tobacco only pouch that could probably handle an ounce or maybe one and a half.I carry which ever will get me thru the trip I'm taking.Over night trips I take all three with bulk blends and a tin or two for variety. And if need be I also have a five count Herfador for cigars.

I use an old pipe pouch made back in the 50's...made of leather and has several zippered pockets. Back: Front: Holds 3 older model pipes or 2 larger pipes, pipe cleaners, lighter, tobacco pouch (roll up) and 3-4 other pockets for things.

Mine is made of waxed canvas and was hand made locally. I find it useful as a grab and go. I keep a cob, some tobacco, a tamper and some pipe cleaners in it. Anytime I leave the house I throw it in my backpack. Never know when the mood will strike or where I'll be when it does. But at least I know I'll have it with me.

Or, you can take the easy route: How is the multi-tool and flashlight used for pipe-smoking? And is that a tape-measure?

How is the multi-tool and flashlight used for pipe-smoking? And is that a tape-measure? It was a pic taken for another thread but it's my one day smoking rig roll up; nevertheless, a multi-tool and small tape measure can save your day. Apologies if the extras were confusing.

I was hoping there was a really cool use for them. 😀

Since I am clumsy prone, I prefer a pipe bag with a zipper.
I have had too many oh crap! moments.
I still use a repurposed laptop bag for tobacco’s and crap for pipe club meetings, but for the pipes, I try to case them in something more secure than a roll up. Normal people can get along quite well with a rollup though, I can appreciate their appeal.

I tend to set up a little pipe "shop" at my usual haunts.
I'll keep a pouch of inexpensive tobacco and a few cobs at my closest friends houses, set up a 2 pipe stand a few tins at my close relatives houses and at my girlfriends. When I worked, I had a little stand and a few blends there, too.
I find this easier than trying to organise everything for treks about.

Thanks so much for the replies so far!!! Really enjoy seeing people's ideas and the various "EDCs" from the piping world.

I'm interested in getting a nice pipe roll, tobacco pouch and was just wondering for those of you using leather, do you actually fill the pouch with tobacco or do you leave your tobacco in the pouch it was bought in. I was curious if you fill it with tobacco does it pick up flavor from the leather or not. TIA

TIA Denis...Most of the tobacco pouches bought today have a rubber or latex lining in them to prevent a leather smell from the tobacco. The "4th Generation" pouches are open pouches with a place for pipe cleaners built in to them. They are around $24.00 and are definitely worth it (to me). I have 2 old Comoy zipper pouches from the 60's that are still fine, functioning pouches even though the zippers are getting a little worn.

Im going to be in Knightdale for a few months for personal reasons so I picked up my Pipe & Accessories Pouch. Holds 4 pipes any pipe accessory you can think of plus 1.5 ounces of tobacco. Thought I’d share this as well. I purchased as a close out on Amazon for $25.00....now retired it’s what I can afford 👌👍👍
