I have seen a few of us on here say they were outside doing some yard work , but do you do any gardening ? Homestead ? I live in a villa with a small yard , I plant in pots, I am getting ready to start fall planting. This year I will try onions , garlic and maybe some form of lettuce. I am also going to try doing some automated water system. Just wanted to see if someone has similar interests.

When I owned my homes I always had a huge vegetable garden, it gave me great pleasure to be able to share my crop with my neighbors. When there was an over abundance I’d put containers of vegetables on a table at the end of my driveway with a sign...” please take what you will be eating today. For there will be more tomorrow “.
Always had a few flower gardens in the front and sides of my homes. I focused on vegetables in the backyard with a few fruit tree’s as well. Yup....I really miss those days.

I try to keep my grass cut. Apart from that, everything dies in my garden. Even the weeds don't seem to survive.

Many years ago when I had more room than now I had a vegetable garden. Each year I tried to grow at least one thing that I hadn't grown before.I tried to grow corn. The squirrels ate it.I tried to grow green beans. The rabbits ate them plants and all.The birds cleaned my Cherry tree and grape vine. Some vegetable plants are really pretty. If you let Broccoli grow it will turn into a beautiful fern.Okra has beautiful flowers.I think the prettiest vegetable plant of all is egg plant. You can find beauty in unexpected places if you just look for it.Even a vegetable garden.

I normally have a year round veggie garden. This year I decided to let the earth rest after the summer crop was finished. I still have a few pablano and jalepenos going. The rest has been tilled under along with leaves and yard trimmings. Should probably introduce a few buckets of worms to get it right for next year.
I love my veggie garden, I spend a lot of time out there. Me, my pipes, my plants and my peace.

Where I live we have a little community garden everyone {there are maybe five of us] just kinda chip in. I really like asparagus once planted it just keeps giving and the foliage is delicate and pretty. If you live in one of these SCL super compact lot homes it goes great on that useless 3ft swath beside the house.

We’ve been having rain galore, Buddy has been eating the mushrooms, it’s giving him diareae, wife has been cooking him rice with peas it’s stopped his blowouts. Had a garden a long time, stopped as I’m getting older, was giving it all away. Tomato’s and eggplants , plus okra was the main thing with a few peppers. I inherited my Grandmothers green thumb, but now I’m buyin at Farmers market, perials of growing old.

For me it's been growing Roses for the last 40 years. I've been growing what are called Antique or Heritage Roses for the last 30 years and it has made life easier than the big showy Hybrids. Less pesticides, less pruning and bigger shrubs with more smaller roses. When i moved into my house 20 years ago, I took some cuttings I got from a lady in the Hill Country of a Lady Banksia climber and now have a beautiful arbor over my front porch entrance to my front porch and every spring and early summer have a plethora of fragrant white blosems you walk thru to my front door.

I grow a vegetable garden every year. My passion is growing peppers and also squash. I have about 1500 sq ft of garden bed. I have planted 250sq ft with currents and bush cherries. I am going to use another 250 sq ft for gooseberries. Planning on dedicating 500 sq ft to bush or pole beans for pickling next summer.

I would enjoy gardening more if it was not waaay down there and I am mostly up here.
Raised beds would be one solution. I should look into that. This summer was so hot and dry, I cannot imagine the plants would survive. My yard once held flowers and grass and is now all weeds. I accidently grew a fabulous stand of Water Hemlock. Coulda wiped out a city with it all. The irrigation water flooding the yard brings in all manner of plant seeds. Some good ones like the Hemlock, Yarrow, Purple Aster. Also less fun ones like tarweed and Ground Cherry.

Ground cherries are delicious, by the way. Here, the husks grow but the fruit does not. So, there is nothing to enjoy.

This is the first year since we moved out here that we didnt plant a garden. We had 1600 sq ft dedicated to our favorite veggies. I just didnt find the time to get it all tilled and planted this spring. I will work harder at it this coming spring because mr 4 will understand what we want and dont want in the garden. I miss it terribly this year but dont miss the weeding.

We are currently setting up a grow room for micro-greens and Oyster mushrooms. Hopefully, we'll be adding a small tank of Tilapia to make it an aquaponic set-up. Plus, I like broiled Tilapia.

One pint of white vinegar to five gallon pail of water use it to water your tomatoes and roses once a month for better yield. If you live in desert it does wonders for your alkaline soil it will turn that lawn bright green. A little goes a long way say a quart per full grown plant.

I had to weed two acres of beans by hand. That was two years ago. I spent the entire month of July pulling weeds, mostly Ground Cherry. All day, every day, sitting in the heat on a short stool. Lots of catepillar stage bugs. I tossed everything to the four sides. A Raven sat with me the entire month, feeding on what I tossed. At least I had company. That was hard.

!Funny little story, my Tundra went to hell in a hand basket, gauges blinking, no headlight, brake ABS light on, made an appt with Toyota people. Young man called me, wife had picked me up, Ahh Mr Simon, you use your truck much, Once a month, I go to the feed store, rest of the time I park it under my old Live Oak tree. He says that’s what I figured, there is moss growing on your truck, to which my wife listening to conversion says He doesn’t need a truck he never goes anywhere. To which I reply every man needs a truck. Now I ask the critical question how much is this Moss removal gonna cost,? Well sir it’s your airbag sensor, 700$, and I noticed the rubber gaskets around your window are shot, wanna change them, I say how much, he says 54$ a window, I say ok, change the oil, all the filters, the Moss removal wound up costing 1100$. Young man says we will throw in a free detail, Damn I say I’m a lucky fellow.!
