While hunting for my new favourite pipe shape the bent Bulldog or Rhodesian (however you may call it) I stumbled over this nice doggy. Apart from the number "109" and "MADE IN LONDON ENGLAND" it has no markings whatsoever. That would normally nothing to write home about but I compared the pipe to the very nice Parker Super Briar Bark which I found recently. Apart from the siver band those two pipes do look very similar, shape, blast and stem! It has got that certain "englishness" about how it is blasted as well. What I found most peculiar is that both pipes have the #109 and that made in London... imprinted to them with even the same font/lettering! Ok, maybe the unmarked pipe was made in the Parker manufactory but the question is more like why would Parker do that?

I can't help you with identifying it but it is a beauty. The bulldog is my favorite shape by far

Other than it's a different line of pipe with the same shape, made by the same company, I wouldn't know. It's a very nice pipe regardless.

That's a beauty, Frank. I'm with Psycho on this one. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck... probably a Charatan. Might be a second, but I don't know if they used the same shape numbers.

Very nice pipe, Frank. It was not unusual for companies to make pipes for independent tobacconists. Typically they may have been seconds and didn't have the manufacturers name on them. At any rate, you have a great piece and I hope you enjoy it.

Saint V - If I may suggest... contact Dunhill with an inquiry and picture attached... I believe they will be able to identify this beautiful pipe and provide provenance.

The pic with the geode is one of mine. It's a Parker that is stamped as shape 103. And all the stamps are on the bottom of the bowl and shank. Plus the bit profile is a bit thicker on the Parker Super Briar Barks. So...Yeah, looks more like Charatan.

Thank you Gentlemen, so it might be a Charatan.

Very pretty pipe Frank. I love Bulldogs too. As has been said, probably a second by Parker or. Charatan, wonderful thing about pipes with age is that the seconds of that era were often as good or better than firsts from today.

I have to agree Shainy! Especially the blast was much more interesting and deep in the past. Even new Dunhills don´t look that good.
